The third version of China’s data center server technology standard project led by China-based Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent are set to be announced at the end of 2015 and the project will cover more standards and adopt a modularized design to help reduce China data centers’ server purchasing costs, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

China ベースの Baidu／Alibaba／Tencent が率いる、China DC サーバー･テクノロジー標準化プロジェクトの Version 3.0 が、2015年の終わりに発表されるらしい。上流サプライチェーンの情報筋によると、このプロジェクトにより、China DC におけるサーバー調達コストを削減するための、モジュール化されたデザインに関する、数多くの規格がカバーされるという。

China launched the first version of the project in 2012 and the second in 2014 and the project is rather similar to the Open Compute Project (OCP) that Facebook has been aggressively promoting.

China は、このプロジェクトの Ver 1.0 を 2012年に、そして、Ver 2.0 を 2014年に立ち上げている。そして、このプロジェクト自体は、Facebook が積極的に推進してきた Open Compute Project（OCP）に、かなり似ている。

In the first quarter of 2015, China’s x86 server shipments reached 427,000 units, up 29% on year and compared to the on-year server shipment growth of the worldwide market of 1.4%, China continues to be the growth driver of global server market, the sources said citing figures from Gartner.

2015年における China の x86 サーバー出荷台数は、427,000台に達し、前年比で 29％のアップとなっている。昨年におけるグローバル市場の、サーバー出荷台数と比べて、この数字は 1.4% のリードを得ているのだ。Gartner によると、グローバルサーバー市場を、これからも China が成長させていくことになる。

In addition to the three major leaders of the project, server players such as Inspur, Sugon, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell, Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), Quanta and Inventec have all joined the project. However, the sources noted that the non-China-based players are not guaranteed to receive orders for participating in the project.

具体的に言うと、この Big-3 が率いるプロジェクトには、Inspur／Sugon／Hewlett-Packard (HP)／Dell／Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry)／Quanta／Inventec などが参加している。しかし、情報筋が言うには、このプロジェクトに non-China のプレイヤーが参加しても、受注が保証されるわけではないようだ。

Cloud News Asia (CNA) を始めてからというもの、こうしたアジアのインフラに関するポストが増えてきています。その CNA の中で、頻繁に検索され、また、読まれ続けている記事に「Taiwan server ODMs may benefit from Project Scorpio 2.0」があります。この Scorpio ですが、文中にもあるように、ひとことで言うと中国版の Open Compute なのですが、最近では台湾勢だけではなく、Inspur や Sugon といったプロバイダーも活躍しているようです。この領域でも、中国の存在感が強まってきていますね。
