A Refresher Course When You’re Fully Refreshed

I’m at a mandatory two-day training course about customer service. The teacher walks in and recognises me.

Teacher: “[My Name]? What are you doing here? You already passed this training.”

Me: “[Boss] sent me here and said I needed to be retrained.”

Teacher: “Why? You did so well last time.”

Me: “Because of one lady who came in for some financial assistance. I started to tell her all the forms I’d need, but she kept saying, “I know all of this stuff, I’m a smart lady, and I know what to bring.” She had a big chip on her shoulder about people underestimating her intelligence, I guess. Anyway, I tried to emphasize how I didn’t want her to waste a trip, so I quickly named the forms as she was walking away, the main one being a proof of address.”

Teacher: “Lemme guess, she came back with no proof of address?”

Me: “Yup! She comes back a week later and doesn’t have any forms to prove she lives in the city. I tell her that if I send it in, it will be denied, and it will delay the process by about two weeks. She said, “You send it in, I don’t need to turn that in!” Okay… I sent it in as she requested. Denied. She complained, I told her the reason stated, that we don’t have a proof of address.”

Teacher: “What did she say to that?”

Me: “She said “Why didn’t you tell me I needed that?” She goes to the financial aid office herself and complains to them about me. She told them that I told her it would be fine to send in the forms without the proof of address. They came down on [Boss]’s a**, and he said I needed to be retrained. So… here I am.”

Teacher: “Well, that story sucks, and is worse for being totally believable.” *Looks around.* “Tell you what, today and tomorrow, make sure you come in to sign your name in the attendance record, and then… take the day, I guess? I know you know this stuff.”

So… thanks, lady, for those two weekdays I got to walk around the city and enjoy the parks and museums!
