URL転送(リダイレクト)サービスの１つ。
短縮URLサイトの登録フォームに『長いURL』を入力して送信すると『短いURL』が作成される。作成した『短いURL』にアクセスすると、自動的に『長いURL(元のURL)』に転送される。短縮URLの中には、URLの文字を自由に設定･カスタマイズできるものもある。

■ 短縮URLの問題点
① 短縮URLは、転送先のURLが分かりづらい
悪意ある人が作成した短縮URLをクリックした場合、｢なりすましサイト｣｢偽サイト｣｢偽ログインフォームサイト｣｢詐欺サイト｣｢架空請求サイト｣｢デマサイト｣｢スパム広告サイト｣などの悪質サイトにアクセスしてしまう可能性がある。
TinyURL.comの場合、URL内に/preview/を挿入してアクセスすると、転送先のURLを確認できる。

④ 機密情報サイトのURLを短縮URLに登録した場合、外部の人が盗み見て情報流出する可能性がある
短縮URLのURLは長さが短いため、URLの一部を変更しながら総当たり攻撃(ブルートフォース攻撃)で何万回もアクセスすれば、短縮URLに登録されたほぼ全てのサイトにアクセスできてしまう可能性がある。

⑤ アクセス者のIPアドレスを収集できる短縮URLがある
悪意ある人が作成した短縮URLをクリックしてIPアドレスを収集された場合、サイト･掲示板･SNSなどでIPアドレスを晒される嫌がらせを受ける可能性がある。
