What should I do if my Roku® device restarts when playing the new Pokémon game on Nintendo Switch?
Background
We are aware of an issue where your Roku streaming player or Roku TV™ may crash and continually restart when you are playing the new Pokémon game on your Nintendo Switch. We are rolling out a software update to users affected by the issue, or you can manually have your Roku device check for an update if it is not currently restarting.
How do I check for a manual update?
If your Roku device is not currently restarting, you can perform a software update using the instructions below.
- Press the Home button
on your Roku remote.
- Scroll up or down and select Settings.
- Select System.
- Select System update.
Your Roku player or Roku TV will check for a software update over the internet, and then download and install it. After your Roku device completes the update process and restarts automatically, it should return to normal functionality with the updated software version listed below.
- Roku player: 9.2.0 build 4701
- Roku® Streaming Stick®: 9.2.0 build 4701
- Roku TV: 9.1.0 build 4501 or 9.2.0 build 4601
To check the software version on your Roku device, go to the Home screen and select Settings > System > About.
What should I do if my Roku device is continually restarting?
If your Roku device is continually restarting, you need to perform the steps below before you can manually check for a software update.
- Turn off your Nintendo Switch or place it into airplane mode.
- Unplug the power cable from your Roku device.
- Reconnect the power cable and let your Roku device restart.
- Follow the steps in the previous section to manually check for a software update.
Note: If the behavior is caused by a nearby Nintendo Switch that is not yours, unplug your Roku device from the power source temporarily. Reconnect it to the power source at a later time, possibly at night, and let your Roku device automatically check for a software update while you sleep.
