Time seemed to stand still as Kanda looked at who his attacker was. It wasn’t even the pain that really shocked him so much as the face looking back at him. He can’t even bring himself to speak. He just stared wide-eyed as the girl twisted the knife in, causing him to gasp at the sudden pain. Finally he opened his mouth to speak and coughed out “L-Lenalee…?”
Her face twisted in a cruel sadistic smirk that was so unlike her, and she remained silent. It was clear this was what she wanted for him. Kanda coughed again as he attempted to speak, but the question of “why…?” never left his lips. Instead she pulled the knife out and his vision faded as he saw the ground rushing up to him.
Kanda jolted up with a gasp, hand clutching at his chest as he suddenly woke from his sleep. It took a few moments for him to steady his breath as his mind tried to process that what had just happened to him was nothing more than a nightmare. Thankful that he was alone, Kanda let out a sigh and hugged his knees as he curled up and willed his racing heart to slow down.

It wasn’t too terribly late, hardly one a.m. in fact. Lenalee had just managed to getting caught up in quite the engaging book, spending likely the last two hours alone in the library. But as she noticed the eerie silence of the order, she decided to call it quits.
The hall lights seemed dimmer than normal, but a little dark wasn’t anything frightening to her. Although, the silhouette of Kanda’s figure sitting up right in his bed was concerning. A light rasping on his frame to get his attention that was met with a startled expression from the exorcist.
“Kanda, no, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to frighten you.” She takes a step inside the room, ignoring boundaries as she tends to do, making her way to his side. “Is everything alright, you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Of course, Lenalee had no clue that she’d be the last comforting sight for Kanda at this time.
