My how things have changed. Our Livejournal friends feed was the original Facebook. Far out. Anyways. I worked as a music therapist for many years living in downtown stl. Lyme disease ruined my marriage, job, and estate. I know am returned to wilderness years and live in mid missouri. Love. It is as it is.

The Pat Sajak Assassins

Everybody likes the "cool part" of a song. You know, the cool part -- the part where three people listening to a record in a room turn to each other and begin nodding their heads in unison. It's usually an instrumental break or bridge about two-thirds of the way through -- and if you can't recognize a cool part when you hear one, the guy sitting in the room who's stoned will be more than happy to point it out for you.

The Pat Sajak Assassins, this year's victors in the Noise/Experimental category, definitely like the cool part of a song -- their "experiment," as it were, seems to be to craft lengthy instrumental pop songs entirely out of "cool parts." Mixing rock & roll's phallic forward thrust to free-jazz skronk, the Assassins' music is endearingly schizophrenic and perfectly crafted for today's short attention span. Whenever something in a song seems like it's getting old, why not try something new? That part that sounds a bit like a sax-only rendition of Frank Zappa's "Peaches in Regalia" maneuvers easily into straight-ahead cock rock and ends up in found-sound sampled noise. Cool parts abound.

WSB reflection

This is the image on the postcard that bill rummaged through his drawers to give me when he declined a photo from me. He was very kind. I told him just as him and kerouac went to see celine that I was there to pay hommage to one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century.....certainly essential in my education. We spoke of Creve Coeur lake, genesis p. orridge, rex morgan and krazy kat cartoons. "Dr. Fingers Schafer, as a nemesis, is long gone" he stated after my pertaining question. The jeweled dagger scimitar...brion gysin artwork on the walls, pill book on his coffee table.... I miss his presence on the earth. The last time I saw him was the Nova Convention Revisted in Lawrence KS. I had played sax outside the show. Blondie, Phillp Glass and others performed. He made an all to brief apperence.

To all you in St. Louis. write back if you want to have a pilgramage/picnic/art performance at WSB's grave in Bellfountaine cemetary in the near future

shaw's gallery opening

foglemans and I met with nathan at the new Shaw's Gallery this morning. A fantastic space...beautiful wood...graceful courtyard. I truly enjoy seeing the evolution and rehabiliatation of st. louis.

Eric Fogleman, Todd Fogleman, and I will be presenting artwork there for the Shaw's Gallery first art show entitled
Works in Progress" which occurs Saturday June 4th 2005.
