Why are there so many attractive people in Paris?

Not just Paris, but many European cities I’ve noticed:

  • People dress well and are more concerned about their appearance. No clue if it has to do with more independent stores, or just better chains, but people just dress well.

  • Overall more active. There’s more commuting by public transit / foot / bike rather than car - proximity makes this possible, but even upping your step count is enough to make you more toned.

  • Food is higher quality. Less additives, less sugar, overall more healthy as a whole. Helps with complexion, bloating, obesity, etc. Even chocolate for example doesn’t have crap like boric acid because it’s illegal.

  • Less cake faced makeup, more emphasis on “natural” looks.

  • This might be a generalization but work life balance is also more important, and we all know how much stress takes a toll on health

For Paris specifically, it’s one of the leading fashion capitals and fashion designers need models, so there might be a lot of people who move there aspiring to be in the industry and “looking the part”.

Edit; in Lithuania a popular dessert at restaurants is blueberries and cottage cheese. In North America that’s someone’s “diet” breakfast

Paris has the highest amount of people of any french city in "cadre" positions and other positions.

Plus in the french culture "how you say something" and "how you look saying it" is as much important as what you say.

Plus inside paris, rents are high and property unpayable so a lot of rich people who can afford to spend time on fitness, beauty stuff and so on

I have a fresh perspective on this having just returned to the U.S. after two weeks in Paris. Yes, the people in Paris were good looking. I live in a major city and am sitting in a sidewalk cafe people watching in a high foot traffic area as I type. If you are comparing Paris to the U.S., a major factor is that people generally aren’t fat in Europe. Another is that people in the U.S. generally dress like slobs, and that has gotten significantly worse since the pandemic. The people in continental Europe tend to be much slimmer and dress a bit nicer as well - both of those things go a long way. I noticed the women there being markedly more stylish, particularly. If you want to see some jaw-droppingly hot men, go to Madrid or Florence - it’s even better there 🥵 Like other commenters, I’ve also heard that in Scandanavia people are particularly beautiful too.

people walk from their homes through the street grabbing a croissant to the metro station, through the station to their train and from their train through another station to the street and their work. they don't go through a door in their kitchen to their car to the sausage bacon mc breakfast drive-thru to their office parking garage and an elevator to their desk.

I legitimately think this breakdown is why there is a lot of things that are better in Europe. More sense of community and less isolation. More likely to see other walks of life and hopefully curb biases and prejudices

Might as well ask, “why are rich tourists so hot?”

wait until you see me outside

26

Same as why people from New York look better. Lots of money and more opportunities to stay fit.

The key difference is effort. People put more effort into how they look. From their style to what they eat, which translates to how they look. This doesn’t stop at any age, whereas I feel like in America and Canada people just give up once they get married, have a family or reach middle aged.

I lived there (am Canadian) and I definitely felt way more pressure to look my best at all times no matter where I was going or what I doing. I’m also the type of person where even in Canada I’ll put lipstick even to just run to the store and I still felt that way.

Ima say it. They're not fat. Americans are just so fat we forget how you're supposed to look. Don't downvote me. You all know it's true.

Walkable cities help. The American diet isn’t great but truly not getting those extra steps in going to work, or lunch, or to the corner store because we mostly live in suburbs that require vehicles to navigate daily.

I noticed the same thing! I believe it's because most parisians do have a cool sense of fashion, they walk and bike everywhere.

17

It’s the cigarettes and baguettes!

18

'cause they fuckin walk EVERYWHERE.. and even if they take the Subway, there's 10 billion stairs.. and on top of that .. who wants to be fat when you got all the tourists in the cafe's staring at you as you walk by?!?!

46

People in Paris generally looked so much more healthy and fit to me. Food is better quality, more exercise, and people also seemed generally happier than where I am from in New England US.

16

where are you from? not just a paris thing, I find people out and about in a big city are generally more attractive than people in a rural walmart

I’m used to being stared at walking down the street in the states but this time i was the one doing the staring. The men were more beautiful than me 😭 very humbling

French people tend to be fit compared to other nations (especially the USA). People dress nicely even if they are just going out to get some groceries, it's a cultural thing.

Paris is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world so the number of hot people per square meter is higher than in a lot of places.

If it's real and not just a biased perception, it might be because :

  1. Culturally, we dress to get out. We never wear pajamas outside for example, so we try to do what we consider to be the bare minimum

  2. A lot of tourists think they have to dress up for Paris (when really they should pick comfortable outfits because they're gonna walk a LOT), which means more well dressed people in the streets

  3. Depending on the neighborhood, you might see a lot of well-dressed people just because it's a rich posh neighborhood, especially around tourist areas like the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées

12

More pressure to be trim, and to think about how they're presenting themselves in public.

24

Yes. It is important to be neat when you go outside. In a certain extent, people dont go outside with indoors clothes.

I asked for directions to a cop in Paris and he was the most beautiful person I have ever seen. Like, no Hollywood star gets close to that cop. No model. No one. But excluding this one guy, everyone else seemed normal.

That’s not true it’s probably just biais there are many ugly people, but yeah there are a lot of attractive people!

11

Maybe you are noticing active lifestyles, better rested people and some particular interest for fashion

They start their day with coffee and cigarettes. Like a true existentialist.

32

Parisians are powered by cigarets and coffee. No excess calories when you’re young and the aftermath appear when you’re old so no one checks you out anyway, win-win !
