GPU render mode for Desktop publishing (Steam)!

Description

We have created many iOS and Android games using GPU mode with lots of bitmaps moving on the Stage. The games run smoothly in 60 fps on an iPhone 4. We are now in the process of publishing these games to Mac and PC through Steam but we have not been able to get the same excellent performance on a desktop computer as on mobile (!) since the GPU render mode in Desktop publishing only will use CPU rendering. The same goes with Direct render mode, since we are not using Stage3D. We never had any issues with GPU mode and the performance is always great on mobile. We would love to be able to publish to desktop using GPU mode as well.

There are tons of apps using GPU mode on mobile with Bitmaps and Sprites on the Stage with smooth 60 fps performance. I believe many developers should want to be able to publish them to Steam with the same great performance they get on mobile, without having to remake the game using Stage3D.

This should be an essential update to keep features working the same across all devices. Falling back to cpu rendering seems like a quick-fix not suitable for desktop game development.

I'd like to chime in on this, GPU acceleration would mean that a lot of our previous games will run smoother and allow Adobe AIR a bright future.

I didn't know about this - I just tested it and wow! Bitmaps really do run faster on my phone than on my PC! This would be a great help for my PC games.

+1 Fullscreen transitions are really painful on recent Windows "tablets". On old ipads run smoothly.

The priority is shown as "Trivial", so I don't think Adobe are interested in improving the performance of AIR on Desktop. This is very unfortunate.

This is very important and would be very very useful. I also made a game that runs flawlessly on mobile but cant port it to desktop :(
