This post did not age well (nothing to do with you or your demeanor or manner of delivery), though the latter part is slightly better because of one factor. Toumal abruptly pivoted and banned all visual (NB- only artwork, and doesn't include literary material... I find that a suspect strategy given the pedo panics inciting these laws) material of minors of an R-X rating. Before, the ban on CP in SF's TOS had alluded only to "realistic" renderings of minors (i.e., the purported fictional child porn was photomanipulated SO well it's indistinguishable from ACTUAL child porn, which is kind of a huge no-no everywhere) last year. They/Toumal elected to proscribe all cub/shota/loli artwork... but didn't manage to promulgate this or even revise the TOS in preparation. I'm not joking. I don't know how he managed to seize the title of "Most Inefficient and Capitulatory Scatter-brain and Dunderhead of Furry Porn Sites" from Dragoneer, but he did. It wasn't until an admin afterwards answered some TOS question correctly (well, wrongly, since their word didn't match the published and promulgated regulations and interpretations of them) and the exchange made the admin realize their collective fuck-up and the extent of it.
Toumal indeed seemed finicky. He didn't explain his reasoning beyond very nebulous allusions to changes in the legal climate- he actually refused to elaborate when people demanded an explanation. I will never regard him as more than a coward who committed desertion when the cultural war was becoming a reality and thus gave us our first of several rapid and severe defeats over a period of 6-12 months in rapid succession.
Oh, also, Inkbunny's policy to ban all sexual content of all humans (not just kids, but ALL) was not created due to antipathy towards people or non-furry artists, but as a preclusive defensive strategy. I easily empathize with the admins and easily conceptualize the rationale by the admins and why it superficially would seem an effective general defense, but I disagree with GreenReaper nonetheless. It just causes much confusion and antagonism from our own members and conversely garners the site no goodwill by non-members or enemies. It also wouldn't likely protect the place or GR if the UK regime goes full anti-cub SJW nanny lolcow and wants to prosecute him or whatever.
From what I hear, this cycle's been going on for a long time. People spend slightly more time there and then return to FA and Weasyl becomes a ghost town. Very few people actually stay on Weasyl after the current wave of drama that causes them to leave.
Well, last time I was uploading commissions of my admittedly bulky foo-dog OC that I've gotten over the years, and this user kept commenting and posting along with a friend about how "disgusting it is that you're portraying the stereotypical cismale in positive light" and that it was "revolting how you obviously view the cismale as perfect because society demands you find women to be perfect". Bro's a mythical Chinese guardian-beast, he's kinda supposed to be buff! I don't know what I did to step on her SJW landmine, but god she did it on every image. I thought she was trolling but her journals were similar fiery stuff with a lot of, uh, fervent backers. I changed my username and she didn't see the second time, at least.
Of course the entirety of the site isn't like that or anything! I've just ran into that kind of thing more over there, as opposed to other websites, haha. Its like the furry Tumblr or something.
They aren't saying that the entire site is rampant with them, only that they have encountered more of them on weasyl than the other sites. I have actually heard this from a handful of people about weasyl, which makes me wonder if that's really a problem on that site or if it's just the same group of assholes commenting on a bunch of stuff.
The thing that bothers me about the whole 'I'm jumping ship' thing is that maybe one percent of those people have actually thought about their options and left because of moral issues. The rest just got caught up in the drama of it and stormed off without actually thinking about what was going on and end up back here in a matter of weeks.
"I like Weasyl's site but the rampant SJW crusading over there means I never make a presence. " I'm not here to make an argument, but the phrasing suggests that that's the implication.
Either way, I don't think there will ever be a "good" furry art-site alternative, as all of them will have their problems because, well, "furries". But if I were forced to pick a lesser evil, I would go to Weasyl. I'm already on DA, and there's a decent crowd there, but it's vastly underage and almost too large to get noticed. However, "Groups" are a nice way to get some attention and stuff.
I just made a Weasyl account, so I'll be checking it out for myself. Hopefully the SJWs stay hissing angrily in their crevices, for the most part.
It's not even that, I mean I don't care what assholes comment to the stuff I post, I'm that thin skinned. I don't use my weasyl account because there is barely any activity there and I don't like that they keep changing their rules, which is something they should have figured out before starting up publicly. In terms of commissions and feedback, I prefer staying on FA, even if it's run by morons.
Do expand, if you find the time. What rules are changing? Does it affect uploads? Honestly, my main reason for staying on FA is because this is where 90% of my commissions come from. On Weasyl, it's a good base for artists, great with displaying and all, but there seems like there are no "other" base, AKA, the customers.
In short, Weasyl is a good gallery concept, but the site has barely any buyer traffic. This I know.
I have my full gallery on that site, but their thumbnails makes viewing submissions frustrating.
They keep changing their ratings policy of what should be mature or 13 and up amd making some really dumb judgment calls (like how a certaim amount of cleavagr, even if there is no nudity, or if a female is wearing a swimsuit cant be marked general anymore) and suspending peoplr who question why they need to change their ratings when it was a certain way for a year.
People always come back to FA. Weasyl is like that club that only gets business when the one next door either gets renovations or has a water main leak. Once its fixed everyone leaves.
YUS! I upload everywhere tho haha. ( it's a bit of a chore ; o ; ) Weasyl seems somewhat dead in comparison to FA. Sofurry is prolly even more dead. Inkbunny is somewhere between FA and weasyl i think but inkbunny has some questionable content policies.. allowing cub torture stuff but not humans showing genitalia haha. ( humans not showing genitals is fine tho! )
Tumblr is nice i think! not very good for connecting with your audience because the comment system is kinda wacky.. and sometimes people get their tumblr's nuked because a cute character had small bewbs which made em appear underage or something < ~ <
Maybe try em all and see which one you like most! I think a tumblr would be nice! ( that way peeps can reblog your art if you draw/paint a comission for em * hinthint * ) c:
I understand tumblr's policies and reasons but inkbunny is still odd to me since they allow cub rape stuff yet wouldnt allow an elf masturbating.. you can draw elves that arnt masturbating and you're fine tho haha. Maybe they dont want their NSFW pool to be swamped by a lot of humans.. that's a pretty valid reason i guess c:

This is the main reason why I don't use inkbunny that much. I can kind of understand why they don't allow human porn since it's a furry site (although I still think it's stupid), but they expand this to anthro characters that have too many human traits as well.
Honestly, I don't like Weasyl that much. As much as I don't like how FA is being treated, this will always be my main site for a reason. This is where the traffic is. This is where the money is. When I want a commission, I know I will find one here. If I don't clear out my fa submissions every day, by the next day I have about 200. I am watching the same people over on weasyl and haven't cleared my submissions in three months, but I only have 1100 submissions. Despite all the people claiming to be moving over there, I still get only two to four journals every day. And those people that claimed they were leaving FA forever advertise for the commissions and auctions they are accepting over on weasyl on FA. This says a lot to me in terms of how profitable that site is. I also do not like how the mods handle things any more on that site than this one, their constantly changing submission policies, or how fussy the site is. Don't get me wrong, I love the folder options, but most of the features they have, especially collections, are unnecessary. Also their thumbnail system is awful :I
LMAO I understand leaving FA, but don't go to weasyl it's like throwing your submission in the trash because no one will see it in short, weasyl is pretty but no one is there so it's useless moving there
I should have elaborated a bit more, I don't really have any intention of jumping ship, just wondering if anyone else felt like we should. There's too many anchors keeping me here on FA; people I admire, friends and the awesome crowd. (Just getting an overwhelming response in my journal like this solidifies me staying.) And yeah, I agree with Weasyl being a bit of a ghost town, like you and other people said, s'why I feel no desire to check it often.
I wish you luck mang, there is literally like no good furry sites if you want any sense of community. FA is where the money's at though, regardless of the site and the owner's choices.
i either use tumblr or FA i tried weasyl but it didn't work out for me personally. it's too quiet, not enough notice. even after advertising myself here and on my tumblr the reactions and volume is just not there. people seem to cycle on and off weasyl constantly so when it comes to commissions it was hit or miss vs here or tumblr it's much easier to gauge work when needed
weasyl has a lot of good things going for it but not a good drive under it
I try to post everywhere. But if FA were to die, I'd probably have IB as my main and still post everywhere after that. Mostly because I kinda have a small base on IB. Weasyl and other sites are kinda... low on fanbase ):
I get even fewer comments on my stories on weasyl than I do here. It's really depressing and I don't like how quiet the site is. There's almost no interaction, which is what makes fa great to me.
I've used Weasyl, but never seem to get any attention when I upload commissions I buy. SoFurry has been a bit nicer and they have some better tools, like a mass upload system for everybody to use. onestly, I only use Weasyl these days to watch a couple artists who don't use FA at all anymore.
I think this is a huge problem with Weasyl. The whole site design really biases attention toward the art rather than the people, relative to FA. The collections system further biases attention toward artists rather than commissioners. It really reduces the incentive to commission if nobody is going to watch me, initiate conversation or even comment. I haven't really met any new friends through Weasyl: other users become next to invisible.
I find FA's design promotes social networking better than any of the flankers. Sofurry comes second.
Despite everyones jump on weasyl bandwagon, the site is pretty dead. The users will jump on you for using FA, the mods refuse to remove content, and the removed all the good features from the site.
Does the owner exercise any administrative punishment on people who are trans though? As a site owner it is possible to have your own opinions, but as long as you separate those from your duties as an admin I can respect that.
I'm sure people would consider this is migrating wasn't such a pisspoor option to consider with how little they've given us to migrate our contact lists. i made suggestions to Weasyl very very early on which would have been rudimentary, fully voluntary providing of FA usernames to a hidden field on Weasyl somewhere, so users could simply copy/paste watchlist from FA and import their contacts to it so it would update them as people identified themselves. This could have worked for any site that supplied a bulk watchlist like FA does. Manual Copy/Paste of a full list at one time (with a lockout of like 5 minutes and like 500 contacts or something to keep people from spamming the tool to break the site)
You can see where that suggestion has landed despite how easy the tool would have been to create for checking A=B=Friend Invite (Directly into the site instead of some side site that doesn't even support adding the friends itself.
If I have to go through and hunt for every person that trickles into that site over 5 months, I'm just not sure I want to bother, y'know? I did try to help those guys when they first launched, but I was pretty much met with direct disinterest even with some 1 on 1 time with developers for the site.
Already watching you there. I'm gonna try to post there first from now on. I also joined SoFurry, which I actually really like. I'm just waiting for Weasyl to get a little pop up previewer so I can go and look at submissions easier. I have the add-on for here called FA previewer so I can look through my submissions faster.
ive been maining weasyl since the whole zaush thing along with my girlfriend- neither of us have had any problem posting any range of art, so im not sure what some people in here are on about (maybe it use to be an issue but has since improoved? i dunno its unclear) its quieter, but i still get daily submissions of 20 to 30 or so to look through; so i dont think its really all that bad.
(also; ive noticed when these things happen, a lot of users around here get super irate at the mention of moving. hidbdkdbdk why?)

I tried Weasyl for a couple weeks but didn´t got the hang of it and deffinitly haven´t experienced major drawbacks with FA, so I think whatever I do in the future Fa will still be my main site =3
Hear alot about how weasel is poo Been needing to find other places to upload my work just in case FA went down the toilet x.x hope that never happens though So tumblr and IB would do fine then?
I have accounts on FA, IB, and Weasyl. I'm currently keeping them all up to date, although I'm pondering leaving FA at some point. Maybe FA will fail catastrophically and make the decision for me. I dunno.
