First off, want to say a big thanks to all the watches, comments, and favs. They mean a lot to me.
Now some kinda sucky news. I won't be going to Anthrocon this year. I will miss the con terribly. I look forward to it every year and love catching up with friends and meeting new people, but some stuff got in the way and it can't be helped.
Due to the busy stuff, it'll probably be awhile before I'm able to get new art done and posted.
Ah, life does that from time to time. At least it sounds like the cause is a matter of being too busy, which isn't such a bad fate, at least on a temporary basis. (I'm barely able to keep up with LJ and FA during the week, but I like doing so all the same - it's part of being able to keep in touch, even in such a rushed manner, ne?)
I'm disappointed, but I want to know why this was kept from convention staffs for over three years. I can understand an indictment being sealed, but really.. the indictment was dated May 2006.
The indictment, which is what is used to formally charge someone, was filed in May 2006. Which means that the download occurred before hand.
The really sad thing is, this all but ends his involvement in Furry. The extra conditions will simply not allow him anywhere near fandom in any manner for the rest of his life.
I'm still curious as to how he got nailed. Did he use a credit card to buy some of this stuff and when the Feds raided the company, they got his address. Was he caught by simply browsing a website that logged his ISP? Did someone he know rat him out?
The indictment states he had three DVDs , personally labeled, with 100 videos and 40 images.. and that these images were of prepubescent children participating in violent sexual and sadomasochistic acts. Prepubescent was made clear in the indictment, which means the ages were between 4 - 12, since puberty is typically legally considered to start at 13.
I know that. During the FBI's visit, they asked him if he still had any kiddy porn around, and he said "Yeah, I've got a few more discs here". /facepalm@Fred
What I was wondering about was what the event that triggered this whole chain of events in the first place (they didn't know about the DVDs until they asked him)? You don't just get a visit from the FBI out of the blue for visiting a child pr0n site. He must have done something more noticeable that got their attention, unless someone did "drop a dime" on him.
Could have been a honey pot. A site set up to give exactly what illegal things the user wants, and secretly logs all the information. Then you just watch for repeated visits, high traffic downloads.. wait a week to see if they grow a conscience, and then go in. If you see users on the site every week or so, you raid them.
It's typical cybercrime stuff. The RIAA uses it for music and the MPAA uses it for movies and the gaming industry uses it for games. High security places use it as well. Most cyber-crime thrillers talk about it, as do professionals. Heck, we have a few honeypots at work.
And typically when the FBI asks a question, they already know the answer. So that leads credence to the "dropping a dime" thing. Maybe a mixture of the two.
I read the documents and he had a hideous amount of the stuff. I wouldn't know how they caught him, but if he was that into it it doesn't surprise me he got caught eventually.
And he was able to go to con after con all that time. Why did the con committees allow an indicted purveyor of kiddie torture porn into their event and mingle with everyone there (including children)? Surely they must have known, but kept it covered up from the masses.
I think Uncle Kage, Mark Merlino, and the bigwigs @ FC have some explaining to do.
Why do we let you still breathe our good air? Your a scab on humanity. If you hate the fandom so much just leave it... but you cant, your so engrossed in yourself and your temper tantrum. Shall we talk about your persistent leeching of the welfare system, fraud, theft, stalking and other behavior YOUR GUILTY of?
Why would they have known about it though? Also isn't it innocent until proven guilty in our system of law?
Obviously the guy is guilty now of course, but is it really the con's job to police him when he hasn't been found guilty yet? Did they even know?
The only person that can be blamed here is Frank. He collected some despicable stuff. When I first heard this I wondered if he accidentally came across underage porn without realizing or something, but this goes far beyond that. This was a clear disgusting crime, but it was his crime.
Actually, could they have legally barred him for that reason? I don't know how that goes. I just know the whole "innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" thing. I guess as a private event they could probably have denied him access, but again why would they be conducting such an investigation to begin with?
It's disgusting to think he was around children indeed, but I don't think blame needs to be put on anyone but himself and those involved in making and distributing the despicable stuff he had.
It is worth noting that often times in cases where you are CHARGED with a crime of this nature, you're told not to attend conventions or public gatherings where children may be present.
He might have violated his bail conditions.. and he might have put conventions at legal risk if Gembeck had done anything to a minor at the convention.
It's sad, but true. Sue-happy society, and all that.
Hate furries? Dude, I've been a furry since 1996. I was never part of this b/tard or 7chan craze. Once again, proving you're an idiot and all you do is assume. Good job.
Oh, the zoophilia matter was known even back then? Sniff was completely forgotten for years AFAIK, but recently he thrust himself into world of furry dramacraft once more by incessantly and militantly defending Kero and annoying his enemies, so a few of us are only now discovering this person's history. A secondary Kero/zoosadism topic led me to check Gembeck's page and journal (I bet he regrets signing pictures with his RL name now, hahaha), and here I see him shitting this place up as well almost a decade ago.
Do you still remember the exact reason you made that retort? Was his zoophilic actions or intentions documented somewhere? I saw someone allude to an incriminating torrent history recently, but that's all I have to go on currently.
Sweety, I wasn't talking about Dustyn. I realize he screwed up, and I hope that he learns from it. I was talking about dj_mixer. I meant that HE should get a life.
What he foolishly did shouldn't tarnish his reputation as an artist. I hope he's gotten parole and that his computer ban will end early from good behavior. I miss his smut (which, to his credit, had no children at all, I may add)
I have a prediction for 2020: Gembeck will come off of active/supervised probation, and FWA will invite him to attend what will be his first furry con in 10 years. The confluence of this and FWA's refusal to even countenance banning Tora and Inkedfur/Sangie will precipitate the decisive culmination phase of the Furry Civil War, the first battle of which will be at FWA 2020 and will likely result in appallingly heavy combat casualties.
With the extreme polarization caused by not just the extraneous American political campaign season (assuming no one assassinates Trump first), but also the mutually antithetical movements to impose greater censorship of pornography to protect the population and children from problematic ideas, artwork, and molestation from Inkbunny's and Pixiv's dreaded marauding fascist cabals which are often cited but rarely sighted- and opposition to/repeal of all artistic censorship to protect the people from themselves, each other, and their own governments- the bloodshed and atrocities become earth-shatteringly and soul-crushingly numerous and savage.
By the spring of 2021, furrydom is a radioactive wasteland and numerically only a small fraction of itself in 2018, the landscape littered with the rubble of destroyed conventions, the bodies of the combatants and their fursonae which heroically but tragically perished to preserve or destroy furry porn, and the hopes and aspirations of those who wished for peaceful resolutions to the crisis. Furrydom has suffered such extremely severe damage to its reputation from the general population- the average furry now being perceived as a deranged lunatic who causes such great destruction to their own people over artwork and heretical political Tweets- that it cannot be fully restored for an entire generation.
The nuclear war, while mutually cataclysmic, left fewer pro-censorship furries alive and still contributing Twitter and artwork masterpieces/abominations than their adversaries. Reduced to a state of utter prostration, they can do nothing more than leave furrydom or capitulate to the new order. Furries slowly reconstruct its shattered landscape and traumatized community with little opposition under its green, citation-obsessed, and generally eccentric war hero, Greenreaper. He would go on to own every consequential furry site in existence, establish a religion based upon Wikipedian/Wikifurrian principles and whatever the fuck Norns are, and liberate America and the world by defeating the demonic Donald Trump merely with his puppet.
