‼️🇷🇺🇳🇪The Russian Army Helped Suppress a Military Mutiny in Niger, Supported by NATO Intelligence Services – Details
▪️Russia helped repel attacks by anti-government forces who attempted to launch a mutiny on August 29, the Russian Foreign Ministry said today.
▪️In the capital of Niger, Niamey, soldiers staged a mutiny on Saturday, but were suppressed by government forces and the Russian "African Corps," according to reports from Der Spiegel and AFP.
▪️The mutinous soldiers seized the airport in Niamey, a military base nearby, and the national television and radio company. They then attempted to storm the presidential palace, but the attack was repelled. Soon after, the facilities previously seized by the mutineers came under the control of government forces, supported by the "African Corps."
▪️Ultimately, the mutineers barricaded themselves in Base 101 in Niamey, which was stormed by government troops and the Russian Armed Forces' "African Corps."
➖"Niger has regained a military base – with the help of the Russian African Corps. According to sources in the security services, the mutiny by rebels in Niger has subsided, and a key air base has been returned to control thanks to Russia's intervention," writes Der Spiegel.
▪️Dozens of mutineers have been arrested after the suppression of the mutiny, and some have been killed.
▪️The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the participation of the "African Corps" in suppressing the mutiny.
➖"The attacks were repelled by national troops with the assistance of fighters from the African Corps of the Russian Ministry of Defense," the statement said.
➖"The Russian side will continue to support its friends in Niger in the fight against extremists, including those incited by former European colonial powers," the Foreign Ministry added.
