quick comparison of tree tesselation

I'm stress testing my gpu, everything set to ultra. In this scene, tree tesselation alone costs me 5 fps

Expand

In game world while wondering it even can't be possible to notice.

I understand difference between volumetric on ultra but this... I would prefer 5 fps than this)

Yeah I noticed this too. Ground texture cascading turned to sh*t. I think this is the "downgrade" they did to improve performance.

I mentioned this just after release, saying I hope Rstar don't just downgrade graphics to gain performance and got roasted by a few locals saying no Devs have ever or would ever do this! lol some people hey.

I can't confirm any downgrades, I set my stuff to what it was before and it looks the same. Including ground rendering. The patch has reverted some settings to Low for many so it's worth a check of all the settings again.

It's hard for me to tell. Restored my settings to my previous settings, but now i've noticed, how little chunks of grass or flowers are spawned in direct sight on the roads ltterally direct in front of the horse. Haven't noticed that in the 15 hours before, but maybe i was always focussed on the middle of the screen and not on the road texture ahead. Have increased the draw distance for vegetation because of that. Frames still are fine, so not a big deal.

Same as me, only thing I had to do was change graphics back to how they were before. Performance may be a bit worse but can't really tell as I use a controller.

I reverted my settings exactly like pre-patch. The top layer of ground textures renders right in front of my face. It's exactly like that horrible shadow cascading in GTA V.

EDIT: A good test for this would be to check the mud textures in Valentine. In other areas, it's not really that much visible.

I take your word for it, haven't payed attention to this detail before the update. Reverted my settings as well, cause i wisely made some screenshots from the menu before the patch.

It seems as though anisotropic filtering is broken with this new patch. Textures look muddy as heck.

I tried changing from x16 x4 and off and there is no difference.

Give it a shot and see for yourself. Tested in Valentine.

You have to manually change the settings back to what you had them at originally under the locked/unlocked section. Or change the graphic quality slider a few notches to re trigger those settings changing automatically when you change the top ones.

- they stay at low when you change things back in the top section at first.

I don't have the weapons menu ( TAB ) after the patch, only Item menu is showing when press "TAB"  !! , I can't aim or shoot , I do press L-click and R-click but nothing is happening , anyone have any idea what's going on ?

A new game from the beginning does have the weapons menu and I can shoot normally !! I tried loading my current save after that and still don't have the menu nor can shoot , what kind of bad luck is this ?

I've taken so many pics with my phone of all the settings and Ganges that I've got over 30 pics of RDR2 on my phone, lol I knew it would pay off as Rstar reset everything with this patch.

I did have to update my driver to latest nvidia because I got less performance on 430.86 when set to my current settings before patch (and yes tree tests was off) and I'm now on DX12 because with Vulkan I'm getting dips below 60 at 1440p but DX12 is good now.

two more comparisons, fps costs about 4,5, even 6

it does look nice but if you want 5 fps on average and don't plan to closely look at tress, leave this off

also I assume this scale with the global tesselation setting, it was on high

question: before this patch tesselation on tress was always on?

Expand

I wouldn't mind the tress tests if not for the pop in, they change from non tessalation trees to tessalation trees about 5 meters from the player.

I'm interested to know also what settings trees had before the patch.

? Have you seen the tesselated trees in RDR2? They have a much more complex geometry than the flat trees with the option turned off.

I have not seen anything but the animated comparison earlier in this thread that I drew attention to.

I said only what I said: That what is depicted in that animated comparison is not an example of working tessellation. I want people who look at that comparison and think "Meh...it doesn't look like tessellation is worth it" to understand that tessellation can be worth it--that proper tessellation noticeably improves the detail of objects.

The tree in that comparison has zero geometrical detail added: It is the same tree, just slightly "beefier". It is an example of tessellation that is not working at all.

its a console port its not pc...thats why the settings have no difference from ultra to high or to on off IM OFF! unistalled

UpTheDowngrade

I really don't see any downgrade to the details of ground textures, or any difference in how they load after the patch, and I am very keen on spotting differences. They still look just as muddy as before, to me, pun intended. I think it's an issue on your guys' end.

game looks worse..and ground does too..its downgraded with this patch

Ground texture cascading and long distance texture popins are definitely bad.

I am not talking about how they look. Of course they look crisp and muddy. The problem lies with cascading. Do you know what that means?

Yes, everyone knows it's a console port. But people have said that other world objects do tessellate correctly, so it's apparently not the case that the tessellation option is simply a fake setting.

(And yes--there is unfortunately such a thing as fake settings in today's ports)

I've never heard of cascading textures, which is what you have mentioned several times. Are you talking about cascading shadow maps?

tbh look what they did on console they downgraded the graphics there and left it like that...now every update rockstar release it will bring more and more problems the best way is to wait for cracked working version but not on this patch coz it sucks..and leave it like that

I don't believe there is any visible downgrade with the patch either, but you didn't notice they fixed the issue where you often weren't able to select things in menus when using a mouse, for example?

game is downgraded..looks way worse on lower settings for example xbox one x settings...!!! if u say its not u didnt even play it with xbox one x settings
