[Japanese > English] Kundoku reading of 民以食為天
[Japanese > English] Kundoku reading of 民以食為天
Japanese

Oi! I have a question about a Classical Han Chinese saying that migrated over to Japanese. While the hanzi/kanji are the relatively the same, the grammar and particles are obviously different.

  1. As a Japanese person with a typical education, would you immediately gloss that into the Japanese translation?

  2. I've seen the breakdown of 民は食を以て天と為す. Is 民 read as 'tami' or 'min'?

  3. Any other cool sayings along the lines of "everyone deserves to be fed" or "Food is everyone's right"?
