Probably, the thought behind it was to prevent an attacker from being able to find out the length of the PIN, because with "OK-less" unlocking, the lockscreen will reject an entered PIN once its length is reached but the PIN is wrong.

Sadly, this removal lead to the loss of convenience. It requires one additional touch at every unlock for those who don't trust biometric unlocking. And the loss of convenience is guaranteed, while what it seeks to prevent is just a small likelihood. It sacrifices a lot of convenience for a tiny bit of security.

A better solution

Here is how it could have been implemented without reducing security: Don't reject the incorrect PIN or password once its length has been reached, but still automatically accept a correct PIN or password. This prevents the length of the PIN from being revealed to an attacker.

Now, you'd think "doesn't that make it possible to brute-force the PIN?"

To that, the solution is treating a certain count of keystrokes without a successful unlock, such as 100, like 5 failed attempts with pressing "OK". This disables the keypad for a duration escalating from 30 seconds.

This count should not be dependent on the length of the password or PIN, such as the length multiplied by five, because that would expose the length again.

Another useful option would be to disable visual feedback on the keypad screen. This means the keypad is visible, but no dots appear above it for every character, and the keys don't light up if you tap them.

It said the idea that slower is always better is an "urban myth".

I don't know how much truth there is to it. From what I know, only RW discs have to be burned at a narrow speed range, but not sure about R discs. From experience, Hitachi-LG drive firmwares won't even let the user record at any other speed than the rated speed on RW discs. For example, it won't let you record a 4x speed DVD-RW at any other speed.

Use case: putting video player in corner with "always on top" enabled so I can see through it and watch and browse at the same time without sacrificing screen space for the video player.

Email providers sadly are killing the option to compose plain text mail. Recently, the German email provider "web.de" , even though plain text emails have benefits like saving space and being less likely to be marked as spam.

In any case, having both options is better than having only one option. So why are they killing plain text email? Do they want people to consume the space faster so they are compelled to pay for a subscription?

I would like to move only read messages to a different folder, but there seems to only be a search filter to only see unread messages.

Der Kanal „Zarbex Reupload“ hatte damals einige seiner bekannten Videos neu hochgeladen, und sie waren unbeschwert etwa sechs Jahre lang online, doch in 2024 machte der Feigling hinter dem Kanal leider einen urplötzlichen Sinneswandel zur Moralapostel und entfernte alle Reuploads, außer einem, unter jenem er in diesem Kommentar seine Moralpredigt zurückließ:
