'I plead for your mercy'

Full text of a statement from the wife of Kenneth Bigley, the Briton being held hostage by militants in Iraq

My name is Sombat Bigley. I am Ken Bigley's wife. We have been married for seven years and I love him very much.

Thank you for allowing me to see Ken when he made his appeal. I desperately want to be reunited with my husband.

I plead for your mercy now and beg that you release Ken so that I may be with him again and so that he may also be reunited with his family in England.

My husband, Ken, is an ordinary, hardworking family man who wanted to help the people of Iraq amongst whom he made many friends. As a loving wife, I beg you once more for mercy.
