Perhaps like most people my age, I was delivered to this song by Fiona Apple and her extraordinary 1998 rendition recorded for the film Pleasantville and accompanied by possibly my favourite music video of all time:
It feels like a ‘given’ song - drawn down from the gods. And, indeed, on doing a little research into how Lennon came to write it, that seems to be the case.
