A CHILD reading list including a book about a trans dad has been rapped by campaigners.
Nothing Ever Happens Here was in a selection sent to the mum of a Year 6 pupil by their school.
It tells the story of a 12-year-old girl whose dad “transitions to become Danielle”.
Despite the controversial themes, it is being recommended to young kids on website School Reading List.
The site is used by teachers to help find books for classes, as well as by parents looking for age-appropriate reading material.
The mum said: “I was immediately concerned to find a book on this subject on a recommended reading list for children aged ten and 11.

“Why do they need to read about a man wanting to transition to become a woman at such a young age?
“I certainly won’t be choosing that book for my child.”
The recommendations were “selected by teachers and librarians”, according to the website.
But Fiona McAnena, of sex-based rights charity Sex Matters, said: “This is barely disguised activism that runs counter to safeguarding. It is irresponsible to teach that they must accept a man who says he is a woman.

“Teacher resources for the book even imply a child reacting negatively to their father identifying as female is a potential character flaw.”
School Reading List said: “We take age suitability seriously and stand by our decision to recommend it for Year 6.”
