Soviet authorities were adamant about keeping the facility top-secret, for obvious reasons. In 1951, the Soviets began building this complex, 5.800 hectare. The purpose of it were to house approx 15.000 soldiers (and civilians), and they kept a large amount of tanks, various missiles - including nuclear missiles, ready to launch from both mobile launching units and missile stands in the area.
