From what I saw, the goal looked completely fair. I didn't notice any shirt pulling, pushing, or contact by the player before the ball went in. So why was it disallowed? Was there another rule involved that I missed, or was it the wrong decision?

This game was ridiculous to the point where Argentina didn’t even look like a top 10 ranked team. I had Spain when the cup started but man I have never seen such a one sided game. It has nothing to do with the shots on goal but more so Argentina looked hopeless on the field. I don’t fault Messi because there is only so much one guy at his age can do, but this Argentinian team is in a lot of trouble after Messi is gone.

It’s a simulation absolutely clear as day. The Argentinian player literally does not touch the Swiss player and he throws himself to the ground, yells and winces and carries on, and throws his head back. Not the refs problem he got a deserved yellow earlier.

It’s utterly baffling to me that the broadcast is lamenting how harsh it is. He is simulating and that is a yellow card. Watching that guy cry and pout is joke to me, like what do you have to complain about?? It’s the correct decision 100/100 and there’s nothing unfortunate about it. The rule is there to discourage diving and maybe this guy will think next time he dives with no contact.

Otamendi was clearly holding onto the attacker. He was the reason they both went down.

France diehard here. This was definitely one of the most, if not the most, wholesome match of the entire tournament. No deliberate shoving, pushing. No yellow cards. And everyone has had a good time (except Mbappe to some extent but more on that). The last finish of Bellingham was the icing on the cake. I am very happy for him.

Kylian was not too happy. He probably really wanted to win or he really wantes to have more than 10 goals. But the thing is, he let Olise attempt the goal, MANY times. Don't know what went through his head. Anyways, nobody knows what happens tomorrow but from how Spain plays, Messi will have big difficulty getting 2 goals. So from where it stands, the Golden Boot is most likely with Mbappe.

We knew Argentina was barely getting by previous adversaries, and a lot of it had to do with their main dude. Messi hard carried this team to another final. Today, the challenge was beyond his capabilities.

And now his national team career is likely over. I mean, he's 39, and *none* of the other guys managed to even come close to sharing the protagonism with him. At any moment.

I jokingly said that, as a brazilian, I am more than willing to welcome Argentina back to irrelevance, but it's not really *just* a joke. I don't see a way out for them (and us) in the coming World Cup cycles. Spain will remain strong, France is likely to get stronger without Deschamps, Portugal can improve, England *desperately needs* to improve... And the future is bleak for the biggest WC winners in South America.

Argentina vs. Spain, who both have Spanish as an official language, is the first same-language final matchup since the inaugural final between Uruguay and Argentina in 1930- also two Spanish-speaking countries. Maybe because all the European countries that have made the final speak different languages while the only other South American country other than Argentina and Uruguay to make a final speaks Portuguese (and they’ve made a lot of them) while Portugal itself has never made it, but still you’d think it would have happened more than just twice, right?
