First-in-class HIV drug nabs approval

The FDA has approved Merck & Co.’s combination of islatravir plus doravirine (Idvynso) for adults with virologically suppressed HIV-1 with no history of virologic treatment failure. Islatravir is first-in-class nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor, providing a new way to halt the virus’s transcriptional machinery when paired with other antivirals.
