High school classmate of Renee Good describes her as "a gift to the world"
A classmate of Minneapolis shooting victim Renee Good has paid tribute to her, a day after she was killed by an ICE agent.
Willo Schubarth and Good, then named Renee Ganger, attended Colorado’s Coronado High School together and were in the same graduating class, CNN affiliate KRDO reported.
Laying flowers at the site where she was killed, Schubarth told KRDO that Good was one of the first people to reach out to him when he joined the school.
“So it was quite a shock and then to have…someone that warm was a gift. She was a gift to the world, honestly,” he added.
Schubarth said he admired Renee’s creative spirit, particularly her guitar skills.

Hundreds take part in vigils across Portland after shootings in the city and in Minneapolis
Hundreds of people in Portland gathered at three separate vigils to mourn the victims shot by ICE and Border Patrol agents in recent days.
One of the vigils was taking place at Terry Schunk Plaza, across the street from City Hall, another at Pioneer Courthouse Square, and a third outside an ICE facility in South Portland, CNN affiliate KGW reported.
Videos from KGW show people outside Terry Schunk Plaza holding candles and chanting “abolish ICE”.
“We know that this kind of violence has been happening, that ICE has been doing these things, but it was shocking to see it happen in that way, to see someone that was trying to help get caught up in that,” Portland-based Pastor Heather Hellman told KGW, referring to Renee Good, who was shot and killed in Minneapolis during an encounter with ICE agents.
“I can only imagine the terror. I’ve seen their violence in person, and so I understand why she didn’t get out of her car and why she was afraid and trying to get out of there.”
Minnesota Timberwolves hold moment of silence for Renee Nicole Good
A moment of silence was held for Renee Good ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
“As we all know, our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said before his team faced the Cavaliers, according to the Associated Press.
“We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisting FBI in Portland shooting
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has agents responding to the Portland shooting investigation to assist the FBI, the agency said in a post on X.
The agency, also known as the ATF, will assist with crime gun intelligence, it said, but noted the FBI is the lead agency.
Some context: The ATF post’s specific focus on its role in “crime gun intelligence” suggests a firearm may have been recovered. The ATF has frequently been tapped by other law enforcement agencies to help trace the origin of firearms recovered during criminal investigations.
Portland police: Unclear if vehicle involved in shooting was weaponized
Police in Portland, Oregon, do not know if the vehicle involved in today’s shooting by federal agents was weaponized, Portland Police Bureau Chief Bob Day said during a press conference.
“We don’t have any information on that,” Day said, noting that the vehicle had left scene of the shooting before officials arrived.
“Six or seven minutes later, we responded to where the victims had called 911,” Day added. “We don’t have any first hand information.”

In a news conference tonight, officials provided more details on the shooting incident in Portland, Oregon, that hospitalized a man and a woman.
Here’s what we learned:
Early in the investigation: Authorities don’t know if the shooting was an “immigration-related event” or “which federal agencies were involved,” according to Portland Police Chief Bob Day. He also said he doesn’t know the identities or the conditions of the two people who were shot. The police chief said officials “do not know the facts of this case,” but are offering support to federal agents who are conducting the investigation. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin earlier in the day said in a statement that “US Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop.”
Dispatch details: Law enforcement officers this afternoon learned through dispatch that “a man who had been shot was calling and requesting help,” Day said.
Calls for change: Portland Mayor Keith Wilson called on ICE to halt all operations in the city until today’s shooting is fully investigated. Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek called for a “full, completed” investigation into the incident rather than more detentions. And State Sen. Kayse Jama told ICE in the state to “get the hell out of our community.”
Emergency declaration on ICE: The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners voted earlier today to extend an emergency declaration in response to ICE activity as the agency has had a continuing presence in the area, County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson said.

Leave has been canceled for all Minneapolis officers due to rising tension, police chief says
The Minneapolis Police Department has canceled all leave for its officers due to concerns over another tragedy taking place following the ICE fatal shooting of a resident yesterday, Police Chief Brian O’Hara said tonight.
O’Hara said he has been adjusting policies and practices in the department due to the situation and has now canceled “all days off for all of our police officers, recalled everyone to duty.”
Officers have been attempting to field and triage all 911 calls related to federal immigration activity, O’Hara told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, adding:
The chief said that federal agents are also unfamiliar with the conditions of Minneapolis neighborhoods and are “not as prepared as city officers” for the situations they deal with every day.

Here’s what we know so far about the Portland shooting
Shots fired by federal agents in Portland, Oregon left two people in the hospital Thursday night, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Tensions across the country are high in the aftermath of a separate shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis earlier this week.
We’re still learning more, but here’s what we know so far:
The incident: At 2:19 p.m. PT, US Border Patrol agents were “conducting a targeted vehicle stop,” Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. At 2:24 p.m., officers responded to a man and a woman who had been shot near Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside, where they were transported to the hospital, a press release from authorities said. A preliminary investigation shows that the victims were shot at a first location and then drove away, according to a senior law enforcement source.
The victims: According to McLaughlin, the vehicle’s driver is believed to be a member of the Tren de Aragua gang and the passenger and target was a Venezuelan migrant “affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland.” The two were husband and wife, the senior law enforcement source said. The husband was shot in the arm and the wife was shot in the chest and their condition is currently unknown, the source added.
The investigation: The FBI is investigating today’s shooting and calling it “an assault on … federal officers,” according to the FBI Portland office. The top priority at the moment after the shooting is that a thorough investigation is done, Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez said while on scene of the shooting.

Agents from special operations unit stopped married couple in Portland, source says
Agents from a special operations unit for US Customs and Border Protection in Portland, Oregon, attempted to stop a red Toyota with a suspected Tren de Aragua gang member, according to a senior law enforcement official.
During the stop, the vehicle began to drive away, striking an agent, the official said.
The official said shots were fired striking the vehicle a number of times.
The husband and wife were being treated for their gunshot wounds and their conditions remain unknown, the senior law enforcement official added.

Minnesota's participation in shooting investigation will ensure trust in community, official says
The state of Minnesota’s participation in the federal government’s investigation into the ICE shooting and killing of a woman yesterday is important, said Todd Barnette, Minneapolis community safety commissioner and former chief judge of Hennepin County.
None of the authorities’ opinions about the blame in the incident that are being given to press right now will matter in court eventually, he said.
“It’s not admissible,” he said.
Ultimately, evidence will be collected and eyewitnesses will be interviewed so a prosecutor can determine “if there should be charges and can that case be be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law — not in public opinion, in a courtroom. That’s where justice is,” Barnette added.
Border Patrol agent “fired a defensive shot” during vehicle stop in Portland shooting, DHS says
A US Border Patrol agent “fired a defensive shot” during a vehicle stop of a Venezuelan migrant, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
At 2:19 p.m. PT, US Border Patrol agents were “conducting a targeted vehicle stop,” McLaughlin said.
The vehicle’s driver is believed to be a member of the Tren de Aragua gang, while the passenger and target was a Venezuelan migrant “affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland,” she said.
“When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents,” McLaughlin said in a statement. “Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene.”
“This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming,” she added.
Portland, Oregon officials demand end to federal operations in city
Officials in Portland, Oregon, are calling on all federal agents to leave the city after two people were shot in an incident involving US Border Patrol agents today.
“As Mayor, I call on ICE to end all operations in Portland until a full investigation can be completed,” City of Portland Mayor Keith Wilson said in a statement.
“We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts. Portland is not a ‘training ground’ for militarized agents, and the ‘full force’ threatened by the administration has deadly consequences,” Wilson added.
US Rep. Maxine Dexter, an Oregon Democrat who represents Portland, shared a similar statement saying, “ICE must immediately end all active operations in Portland.”
Democratic US Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon also weighed in: “Trump’s deployment of federal agents in my hometown is clearly inflaming violence – and must end.”
Priority right now is a thorough investigation, Portland-area prosecutor says

Woman who witnessed shooting says no federal agents standing in front of car before incident
One Minneapolis woman said she was on her way home from walking her dog when she witnessed an ICE agent shoot a woman in her car yesterday.
Betsy, who declined to give her last name, said she was standing on the opposite side of the street as the incident unfolded. She said she could see an agent standing next to the driver’s side window.
Before the shooting happened, “the agents were moving toward the vehicle. They were gesturing at the driver. They were yelling at her. They were agitated, but they were not in danger of being injured or hurt by the vehicle at all,” she added.
In the hours after the shooting, federal officials had said the driver was attempting to hit the agent with her car. Betsy said in the moments before the shooting, she could see the driver’s hands moving on the steering wheel to adjust the car.
As the agent fired shots, the vehicle accelerated slightly before it slowed down and crashed into a nearby parked car, Betsy said.
“The car was kind of moving toward where I was standing, so I could get a clear view of the driver. I could see her head lolled back onto the headrest. I could see a lot of blood,” she said.
A woman who later identified herself as the victim’s wife ran over to the crashed car, Betsy said. She was “extremely distressed” and yelling for someone to help, the witness said. Betsy said she tried to dial 911, but federal agents began to approach the car and were telling people to move away from the scene.
Protests pop up in cities nationwide in solidarity with Minneapolis
As growing crowds of protesters continue to rally in the Twin Cities throughout the day after the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good, demonstrations are spreading in other cities nationwide in solidarity with Minneapolis.
Here are where some of the protests are taking place:
Boston, Massachusetts: A large crowd of demonstrators gathered downtown at the Boston Common public park for the second day in a row to protest the Trump administration’s anti-immigration crusade.
“We’re seeing ICE raids all across the country. What future does that leave us for our youth? That’s the reason we have to fight for that future,” one speaker said, according to CNN affiliate WHDH.
Baltimore, Maryland: Rallies are being held in downtown Baltimore as protesters gathered at the George H. Fallon Federal Building, where the city’s ICE field office is located.
Protesters were seen holding up signs that read, “The people united will defend immigrant families”; “Baltimore against Trump”; and “Protesting for Renee Good.”
Birmingham, Alabama: Photos of Good were illuminated by string lights alongside American flags in the city’s downtown as protesters demanded justice for the mother of three. Tori Holland, a protest organizer and activist, told CNN affiliate WBRC that what happened to Good “hits really close to home” because it could “very easily happen to me.”
“A lot of people, even in my own family, don’t realize how much at risk we are putting ourselves by speaking out… organizing and drawing attention to what’s going on in our country, because it’s not OK,” Holland said.
Pflugerville, Texas: Protesters started gathering outside the city’s Department of Homeland Security facility at around 5:30 p.m. CT, chanting and holding up signs in what organizers called an emergency action.
Multiple speakers spoke about the need to stand in solidarity with Minneapolis and demanded ICE leave local communities, according to CNN affiliate KEYE.
