Oooooo You Like Boys You're A Boykisser, and its twin variant You like Kissing Boys Don't You, refers to a GIF caption of a cat character lightheartedly accusing the meme's viewer that they like boys and are a "boykisser" (a slang term predominantly used by LGBTQ+ people to both make fun of and support each other for their pleasure in kissing men). The meme and its recaptioned variants became commonplace in private Discord servers in early 2023, later spreading to Reddit on subreddits like /r/furry_irl and /r/196. The cat character used in the meme comes from Twitter artist Mauzymice whose GIFs of the character were used in many of the trend's variants. Overall, the meme is similar to Sissy Hypnosis, I'm a Boy Liker, I Like Kissing Men on the Lips, the Homophobic Dog and I Know What You Are.

Origin

On June 22nd, 2022, Twitter^[1] user and artist @Mauzymice tweeted an original GIF of a talking cat character whose eyes become red and hypnotic (shown below). Over the course of nine months, the tweet received roughly 3,100 likes.

Months later, on November 9th, 2022, Redditor lilillillie posted a GIF to /r/196^[5] that used a Mauzymice GIF and had a caption reading, "this is how u look saying that shit," earning roughly 2,400 upvotes in four months (shown below, left). The Mauzymice GIF used was originally posted to Twitter^[6] on June 25th, 2022, earning roughly 4,500 likes in nine months (shown below, right).

Sometime in early January 2023, an unknown creator added a top caption to Mauzymice's "red and hypnotic" GIF that read, "oooooo you like kissing boys ur a boykisser" (shown below, left). It is currently unknown who the creator of the GIF was, likely originating in a private Discord server. For instance, a screenshot uploaded to Imgur^[2] shows a "girlkisser" variant in a Discord server, made on January 9th, 2023 (shown below, right).

On January 10th, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @PinkDeerfox tweeted an edited screenshot of the "oooooo you like kissing boys ur a boykisser" GIF in which the cat's eyes were painted black and the text read, "you like kissing boys don't you" (shown below). The tweet received roughly 6,700 likes in two months and is currently the first-known posting of the specific meme. On January 11th, Twitter^[4] user @_Moon_Runner_ posted the "oooooo you like kissing boys ur a boykisser" GIF as a reply to @PinkDeerfox, earning over 210 likes in two months. The tweet is currently the first-known posting of the GIF.

Spread

On January 13th, 2023, YouTuber^[7] phantasma posted an original video that used and referenced the "this is how u look saying that shit" GIF, gaining roughly 28,600 views and 1,000 likes in two months (shown below).

Soon after, "boykisser" memes and GIFs started surfacing en masse on Reddit. For instance, on January 15th, 2023, Nichita0000 posted the "you like kissing boys don't you" meme to /r/196,^[8] gaining roughly 1,300 upvotes in two months. On January 16th, 2023, Redditor /r/196^[9] AlephXVII posted a "girlkisser" variant of the "boykisser" GIF, gaining over 90 upvotes in two months (shown below, left). On January 18th, 2023, Redditor Hitoshi-nya posted a variant GIF to /r/TheRatEmpire^[10] that had text reading, "oooooooo you like boys now ooooooo you're a boykisser ooooooo." In two months, the post gained over 570 upvotes (shown below, right).

Going into February 2023, the GIFs and memes gained more variants that recaptioned the text, turning the template into an exploitable. For instance, on January 31st, 2023, Redditor pisscorn-boy posted a meme to /r/furry_irl^[11] that was a negative variant reading, "You like kissing girls don't you." Over the course of a month and a half, the post received roughly 2,900 upvotes (shown below, left). The trend then became self-referential, such as in a meme posted to /r/furry_irl^[12] on January 31st by Redditor MERMANADE which gained roughly 1,500 upvotes in the same time period (shown below, right).
