When did the "activist" game developer mindset start?
Most strange phenomena can be pinned down to a single date or title, such as the first game to feature a turrent section, or the first game to feature quick-time events (I'm glad those two features are gone). So, what was the first game where the developers had a "activist" mindset, where they didn't care about their customers at all and actively fought against them brazenly. When did this terrible, narcissistic mindset start, and what's the first game to be plagued by it?

I can pinpoint such a mindset with movies, with Ghostbusters 2016. That was the first movie I saw where the director, the actors, and even the studio funding it actively went against the customers and fought against them so openly. It was pretty weird, which made it satisfying when the movie flopped and it sequel was cancelled.

But what about games? What was the first game to be plagued with the "activist" mindset that ruined it?

When did groups like Sweet Baby Inc first become prominent, metastasize and stink? That may be what you're looking for.

So one more straight boy crying because he thinks a minor character might be secretly gay or something and this is offending him due to how woke and activist it is..

Lots more gay devs crying when their games bomb and the straight boys laugh all the way to the forums though.

You're losing this one boss. There ain't enough gaymers on the planet with flexible income for them to keep trying at this point. Sales have shown this.

They talk a LOT, but they never actual buy anything.

Most of the clout and attention they've gotten is from people who complained about them. I'm pretty sure they're grateful for all the press they've gotten. It would've been smarter to not give them any exposure.

It's not cherry picked when it is an ongoing pattern.
It started when LLM's built-in safety and political correctness disclaimers penetrated the developer's mind while he was interacting with it to develop his game.

So... 2022. Can we get a consistent date with you anti-wokers?

What pattern is that? Is it the one where Big Macho White Dude and Big Breasted Blonde Girl aren't the de facto characters in games any more, and we are actually getting different types and looks for characters? I would say that's a good pattern to have.

Weren't games also censored due to activist pressures? Thinking like Final Fight with Poison and games with Christian imagery or symbology or violence had to be toned down when brought stateside like Castlevania and Actraiser (surely forgetting others). Just an observation.
Nintendo of America was highly censored in the 80s and 90s.

The pattern I disfavor is the realist one, generally in the instances where the amount of resources required to achieve higher levels has easily outstripped personally perceived benefits.

The Steam machine needs to be $1500 so we can render the peach fuzz on character’s faces, not to play Balatro. But that’s the focus we’ve been having in the AAA sphere for pretty much the whole time because it’s the easiest to traditionally market I guess. When they try to market the writing they say things like “over 200k lines of dialogue!” …so yeah they haven’t found the path to changing what the arms race is.

Y'all got the memories of a gold fish. Even black females characters are getting beat with the ugly stick. We already discussed this multiple time.

You're just desperate to make it a race thing because you know that you lost on the facts, but minority characters are catching the hits too.

We now enter the part of this dialogue where Debra Wilson is burnt in effigy because the people complaining don’t realize she’s been in the industry since at least Fallout: New Vegas.

I think I still have around somewhere an EU censored copy of Parodius for the SNes.
Game was published the year 1997.
I've found this interesting link for historical purposes:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regionally_censored_video_games

Nothing new under the sound, despite certain people being sold Gamergate and all the 'culture wars' thereafter are some sort of historical breakthrough.

Not for this, anyways.

I still don't understand why you're wasting your time complaining about games you are not the target audience of.
