When did the "activist" game developer mindset start?
Most strange phenomena can be pinned down to a single date or title, such as the first game to feature a turrent section, or the first game to feature quick-time events (I'm glad those two features are gone). So, what was the first game where the developers had a "activist" mindset, where they didn't care about their customers at all and actively fought against them brazenly. When did this terrible, narcissistic mindset start, and what's the first game to be plagued by it?

I can pinpoint such a mindset with movies, with Ghostbusters 2016. That was the first movie I saw where the director, the actors, and even the studio funding it actively went against the customers and fought against them so openly. It was pretty weird, which made it satisfying when the movie flopped and it sequel was cancelled.

But what about games? What was the first game to be plagued with the "activist" mindset that ruined it?

You should read about this little movie called "The Life of Brian".
It was made in 1979.

I am guessing you weren't thinking of this scene, it isn't the most famous. But it makes a point, or 2, or 3...
I was just thinking in the bathroom while wanting to play Dave the Diver is that the anti-woke have no idea what they talk about when it comes to physical fitness. I am considered fat, I'm working on that for sure. But when I was completely out of shape, shortly before I ended up with chronic bronchitis from con crud, which haunted me for over a decade.

I was able to free dive... 14 feet and surface on a single breath. No snorkel trick to get extra air in it. No scuba tank, nothing like that. And I didn't use a jumping off point. Keep in mind this was a section of a pool that was being used to train people in Scuba before they went on an actual dive.

All I did was dive into the water from the surface, kicked my feet until I rammed into the bottom with my head, shook my head and started swimming back up.

In fact if anything, adipose tissue would be advantageous on a dive in the colder climates as it insulates your core.

So if we wanna talk about who the activists are, OP. It's you guys.
About the time govmits forced people to hire women. Then just kept getting worse with all the DEI hires.

They REAL good at activism. Real bad at making games.

You can pretty much tell how bad a game is going to be by looking at a photo of it's devs. The more blue hair, pixie cuts, septum piercings and rainbows you can spot, the worse the game is gonna be.

Ah yes, because Blue Hair is a unique thing that didn't exist until Gamergate. Totally. Yep.

Say... uh... when was Fire Emblem 1 released. I mean unless you wanna argue with me that Marth has black hair.

Just so we are clear; ''GamerGate" was the audience publicising that the industry was bribing gaming journalists to write articles to script. The industry responded by falsely claiming that it was 'right wing incels' crying about feminists; which is totally not what it was. So anyone that subscribes to the gamergate myth is a tool of a corrupt media industry.

Nah, it was true - the whole "ethics in game journalism" narrative was pushed by a bunch of Real Man Gamers to cloak their "how dare wimmins pollute my Holy Gaming Hobby" manufactured outrage and bigotry.
On that I will have to disagree. I was there and watched as GG unfolded. It happened because of the collusion of several publications in their "Gamers are Dead" articles brought on by the nonsense caused by a handful of 4chan idiots clashing with a female developer and her journalist friends. GamerGate was about ensuring transparency in video game journalism - a point that was actually gained because of the movement. It was quite clear that for years, gaming publications would give favorable reviews to games so that the publishers would be happy and continue to provide those publications with future releases.

What happened of course was the Internet, and the groups of incels that like to latch on to anything that they could use to spout their own messages and agendas. This of course fed right into the hands of the gaming journalists who took that and ran with it in order to avoid the topic of transparency in gaming journalism and continue to push along on their own agendas as well. Just like the current Woke/DEI nonsense, all we have are a handful of Group Think activists on both sides of the fence shouting at each other for attention while the rest of us simply accept games for what they are and continue to play them. The vast majority of gamers back then simply wanted the reviews and articles they read to be honest reflections of the games that were the subject of the article so that they could make informed decisions about what to buy and play.

The New Brain From Curry's sketch is almost a decade older than that and depicts a plural transgender lesbian couple and makes zero jokes at their expense.

Hope you’re taking the piss.

(Media Literacy lesson: Sometimes the depiction itself is the joke at someone’s expense , which is known as ‘caricature’; see: “minstrel shows”.)

and there's the rather "anti-capitalist" messaging in the Fallout franchise.

Such as?
I do enjoy Fallout (except that the dog won't stay put at home), but I do not see any 'anti-capitalist' progaganda in it. It is dystopian, but I don't see it laying blame on either the USA or Communist China, just stating that it was a war between them that ended the world.

Ihih the bombs were dropped to sell vaults but there's no anti-capitalist propaganda.

"You people" are so scary, you see left wing and woke agendas and train yourself to recognize these dangerous patterns everywhere but fail to notice the big buzzing flashing neon signs. When someone points them out you say "oh that, no that's just MORE woke propaganda".
Do yourself a favor and learn to think with your own head.

.

Depends on the iteration and who you ask. I believe one purports that the purpose of the vaults was to conduct experiments as part of trying to figure out best practice for multigenerational space travel.

At least as far as Season one of the show however (need to finish Season 2), Vault Tech seemed to be planning to launch nukes to win at Capitalism or whatever so that's pretty blatant. Very silly and nonsensical but uh, yeah very exegetically blatant.

Canon is what canon is, in FO1 already vaults where depicted as cruel social experiments enacted by a private company. One can argue it wasn't strictly a critique of capitalism but for sure it was a critique of power and in our society the line between the two is... let's say "blurry".

Edit for those who brought up Tim Cain. He strikes me as the kind of person who would scoff at this entire "woke-anti-woke" nonsense and tell you to get an education and a job and stop wasting your time.

I’m the only one who brought him up. But you are most likely correct about his opinion on that.

Edit: although not to say that he isn’t socially progressive, just that it’s not unreasonable to find the online discourse as far as it becomes buzzword back and forths absolutely asinine.

I was trying to illustrate OP that the 'activism' is most probably older than himself. So the concept this all 'started' somehow with GG, or girls entering the 'no girls allowed' gaming club is just broken and tainted merchandise built to spread a bigoted and intolerant message older than most of the people who are parroting it.

And the best way to do so is by piggybacking on top of what's popular and trendy right now. Basic SEO by outrage grifters.

There's a meme which encapsulates all of it in a sentence
"We paid a freelancer to say a thing you like is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because the Google/Facebook duopoly ate the whole digital ad market and now harvesting hate clicks Is The Only Viable Business Model For Online Media"

I stopped listening at "bigotted'

Turns out most things that are bigoted (in the modern sense) are also just factual. The moment you disagree with bigotry you're likely just lying. :)
