The upcoming Persona 4 Revival has been confirmed to be censored (something many have come to expect of modern remakes) as character Yosuke is being altered so that he “fits the modern era”.
An interview held at Anime Expo 2026 had Persona Team General Producer Kazuhisa Wada disclose that the dialogue and interactions of Yosuke Hanamura will be altered:
“We hadn’t changed much about the story or the character’s thoughts or how they act or anything. Mostly with Yosuke, really.”
“He’s a little bit insensitive in terms of how he treats outsiders sometimes. So we wanted to lighten that up and make it a little bit more fitting for the world we live in now.”
Yosuke has been criticized heavily by modern video game tourists due to him being rather “aggressive” towards certain characters, such as Kanji and implying he might be gay.
This censorship has naturally stirred controversy as many believe remakes shouldn’t be rewritten to reflect corrupt modern sensibilities.
