The light should turn off in a couple seconds. Mine all do that when turning them on. Also, when they're brand new, you have to hit the test button then flick the breaker on.

Edit: when you said switch, I assumed you meant breaker. If it's the light switch you're talking about (that makes the afci light go off) then there's an issue.

Yes I meant the breaker. It does turn off after a few seconds and it is brand new so I have to hit the test switch.

The light tells you what tripped the breaker last, which was an arc fault,

I’ve never messed with those particular ones, but you may be able to hold the test button to clear it, or just leave it alone.

You can also look up that particular breaker: “Siemens arc fault breaker” and find the documentation for it that will tell you all about it.

Nothing to worry about though, it’s for troubleshooting purposes.

u/TheRoobs I know its been 5 years but did you figure out what was wrong? I have the same breaker as you and it keeps tripping randomly even when there is minimal load. When I reset the breaker, arc fault light comes up for a few seconds. My other breakers don't do that.

Not really. I chalked the last few up to a bad surge protector. Has been fine since I swapped that out. I checked the outlets they all looked fine. Seems to only happen every few months

For us, it was tripping because we have an outlet outside that we use for string lights. It was raining and it was causing the trip. We unplugged and it was ok.

I’m going through the same issue. I think I have a bad breaker because it trips often or intermittently I was testing it today and had a load as low as 5A pop the breaker with the arc fault light coming on and basically keeps popping every time I turn anything on. If I wait an hour I can load up the circuit and it’s all good. It seems to happen when it’s cold out not that that would cause a fault to show up so I think the breaker is shot but the price difference between a traditional breaker and an arc fault breaker make me want to switch to a traditional breaker because it’s just the plugs in my garage.

wow same here, any luck? i’ve unplugged my string lights outside and hit test on some outlets inside but still just my garage.

I had this happen to me and figured out that it was due to a short in a surge protector. I stopped using the port that was shorting and it fixed it. Later, I replaced the surge protector entirely.
