Tell me /tg/, have your DM gone too far with the hopeless grimderp?
Last night we had out weekly game and we were exploring a maze created by a wizard in a pocket dimension, to trap the soul of a young primcess. The whole place was a chaotic mix of places we had already visited, but everything was in a complere state of decay and abandonement. There were few monsters and most depended on a few riddles we managed to overcome. The only "real" danger was faceless black warforged, that followed us around and was on epic level, but was slow enough for us to avoid it all the time.
So, we reach the chamber where the soul of the princess is and we see an stone slab saying that to recover something so precious we would lose something just as precious for us. Then the whole place begins to crumble down and we gotta race down a long corridor to make it to the portal back to our world.
Then the DM suddenly describes how a metal fence falls from a slot in the corridor's roof leaving our elven cleric (and only female PC) trapped on the other side. Then the warforged appears and begins to walk towards her. We try to rescue her but we cannot lift the fence or break it. Then the DM says an stone slab begins to slowly fall down in front of the metal fence, but not fast enough for us to not see our cleric being stabbed to death by the warforged. The stone slab finally falls and we escape, coming back to our world.
The cleric had no chance against the warforged, and all our attempts to save her were futile regardless of our rolls. So, instead of feeling awesome for completing this quest we feel like shit. Also we cannot resurrect her, because she faded away alongside the whole pocket dimension.
