What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our vision for VRChat is to enable anybody to create and share their own social virtual worlds. We believe that such a platform shouldn’t be built privately, but rather alongside a passionate community who can help shape the future of VRChat. Early access gives us an opportunity to share what we and our community have built so far, as well as invite new members to help grow the VRChat universe.

So far our journey has gone well with fantastic contributions from our community and our dev team. In fact, a lot of our dev team began as social VR fans, and contributing community members. In the last few months VRChat has matured to a point where we feel ready to share it with a larger group. We’d now like your help to shape the next stage of our collective journey. We welcome all your suggestions, help with testing and of course your creations. What will you help us dream up next?”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“VRChat is constantly evolving. We’re working tirelessly on the core platform to expand features and tools that allow for deeper creation and enjoyment of VRChat. Our community is building new worlds and avatars every day. We have big dreams for Social VR and we want to be at the right level of completion before leaving Early Access. We’ve not set a time limit on that yet but as we move forward we’ll keep everyone updated with our progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“VRChat will be a complete Social VR creation experience on all platforms. We plan on making sharing, content creation and streaming easy to do together from within VR. We are constantly adding more building blocks and features to our app and SDK. Every day we wake up excited to keep improving VRChat. Stay tuned!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Even now VRChat is a highly enjoyable experience so we encourage you to take a look even in at this early stage. Come hang out, play games, and meet people! Many of our core systems are in place, including social tools, full body avatars, interactive virtual worlds and content creation tools. There are already hundreds of worlds to explore and more are added every day using our Unity SDK.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“VRChat is currently free and plans to remain so for the foreseeable future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are formed in large part by our community. We are creating the platform but it is our users that bring it to life. We want to provide everyone with the best tools for sharing, streaming, holding events, making games or whatever activities they can dream up! We want our creators to feel empowered to make the most engaging content they can. By opening up our development to you, we can make VRChat the best experience for our users. We will be reading all feedback and suggestions with great interest! Come join us and help out!”

Privacy infringements, terrible method of verification, public worlds are full of kids and private worlds are full of friends (you don't have a key).

It's not 2017 anymore. Terrible way to spend your time now. That's the short.

Here's the long. What a farce, Verification was just intrusive information gathering that I have to pay for to prove I'm an adult. Now the team is going to "assure" that I am of age based on what exactly? "Feeling"? And what if they get it wrong? What if you all assume something incorrectly? How do I change your "assured" views if you're wrong? By paying and sending my information in? ♥♥♥♥ that. What if you incorrectly assume someone who isn't of age is? That'd be definitely worse no? To think I have to verify my age after 9 years of having my account by sending my information into a database that is bound to eventually get leaked is vile. I'm not trusting any companies with my personal information.

I've played since 2017 off and on. All I can tell the dev team with this topic, and I mean this, as I feel betrayed to my core, shove it. "Assurance", yeah, I've been assured now that there's no point in playing if the dev team uses such a wishy-washy approach to making sure someone is of age. Nah, shove it.

To follow up, I don't particularly want Verification to begin with, I don't like the idea of underage individuals playing VRC as a whole, but that's on parents. Children are the parent's responsibility. The company and I should not be responsible for the lack of attention paid toward their children. It's a ridiculous idea.

Forcing identity verification on users to access content in a game where anonymity is encouraged _and_ getting them to pay for it is an amazing move. I can finally uninstall this with no regrets.

welcome to the deepest ring of digital hell!
you have:
- mean people tossing slurs left and right
- furries
- a social-centered game that doesn't even have private messaging
- cool avatars, sometimes
- a whopping 3 worlds that get over 500 players and everything else is left to rot in the dust if you don't look for it
- cool people, SOMETIMES
- the experience of every public instance feeling like the world's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crossover episode known to man (seriously, i watched people dressed up as different spidermen start dissing on tadc characters. funniest ♥♥♥♥ i've ever seen)
- YOUR FRIENDS!!!! YAYY!!!!1

i'm split on this game, but for the lack of a price tag, you can't really expect a top tier experience.
this game is not for the weak of heart. you will be insulted by anyone mean-spirited enough just "because it's vrchat" and you will have to come to terms with people being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in public instances sometimes. so don't take offense, it happens to everyone so often it's lost most of its meaning. ignore them, block them, mute them, you've got a few tools to make your experience better, you might as well use them.
regardless, like any other game, it's always more fun if you've got friends to tag along. bring a pal! it makes the experience much more pleasant.

[note: this review has been somewhat overexaggerated for comedic purposes. don't take my word as final, everyone has their own opinion. i'm just voicing my own in a funnier tone.]

This "game" is determined to steal your information for their overreaching age verification and they do not listen to community feedback on anything. VRChat Inc. is a very nanny-state loving company that wants to punish you for existing and the players are the lowest of priorities for them. VRChat has consistently lost features and is frankly obsolete compared to many similar games both technically and socially. Lots of other similar games do a life sim or give your own home world more meaning and progression than this one for example. Avoid

Will ruin your life if you let it, like 85% of the player base is degen gooners the other 15% are actually chill people who don't just want to smash pixels

Oh and if you're a minor stay as far away from this game as you
can, Someone will try to groom you within you're first 50 hours

Played it a bit few years back

Devs nowadays are more focused on censorship and curbstomping free speech than on making a good game

Shame.

Between requiring payment and government ID for full access, the arbitrary and erroneous enforcement of rules, terrible customer service, mass removal of content that seems to be filtered by AI rather than actual people, causeing a massive purge of content, and just overall decline of the service in recent times. I'm gonna have to put a no.

one of the only social platforms where you cant actually socialize. probably have some of the most low life human beings youll ever stumble across. pedos and racists everywhere. and dont even get me started on groomers.. public instances makes you feel like youre trapped, and nobody even bothers to talk with you. however, i did find this game enjoyable back when COVID was a thing, the community was much better than and youd actually make some friends. unless you come here with someone you already know, its pretty hard not to feel lonely here.
the vrc team is also awful, with some moderators being exposed in the past for being hella problematic. this game is honestly just a pool of them. theres no way of avoiding pedos here. its like they own this platform atp. i feel like it couldve been way more enjoyable if they actually cared about their community, removing modding in a SOCIAL game is diabolical. and the age verification thing is clearly not helpful. everything about this platform is a mess, i really wouldnt recommend getting on here unless its for private instances with your friends.

It's so sad to see the game I grew up on become a hub for PDFs and groomers.

Hello everyone! Im a 21 y/o individual that has played this game for 7 years (start age: 14). I have seen the rise and fall of many eras of this game and have seen this as a fun and sociable platform. It helped me work on my social anxiety and i loved making new friends until there was a huge increase of adults that wanted to friend me, i have had more then three adults saying they're going to unalive themselves if i didnt date them and more grooming attempts then i want to admit (keep in mind i was a minor and this was the early stages of vrchat, when they actually cared about their player base).

In the year of 2026 there is more negativity than positivity. Is more or less impossible to go into a public world without meeting a troll, PDFs or for an adult grooming a minor and a little more insignificant things. It shows that the vrchat team has really stopped caring about its player base by only focusing on becoming a money grab and I can't help but feel a little heartbroken about it, just because this was a comfort game.

If the vrchat team actually cared about its players and minors safety they would have made this game 18+ AND if shown proof of PDFs and groomer they would actually give out IP banned’s instead of the 1% chance of getting a 1 day ban (like really.. for diddling a kid they get a 1 day ban....HUH).

Do better!
