 Dexter "Dex" Morgan (né Moser), also known infamously as The Bay Harbor Butcher, is the titular main protagonist of Showtime's Dexter franchise. He is a vigilante serial killer who only targets other murderers, adhering to a Code taught to him by his adoptive father, Harry Morgan, as a means to control his violent urges. Dexter's urges (which he calls his "Dark Passenger") arose after witnessing the brutal death of his mother, Laura Moser, alongside his older brother Brian Moser, in their youth. He would later work as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department alongside his adoptive sister Debra Morgan while moonlighting as a killer. Despite mostly targeting people who themselves are hardened killers, Dexter is not above making attempts on people who are unlucky or unwise enough to probe into his true identity; after all, the number one rule of Harry's code is "Don't get caught." By Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter has lost most people close to him. He is no longer a forensics expert but a rideshare driver living in New York City, where he helps his son Harrison deal with the trauma inflicted upon him by the Trinity Killer, who killed his mother Rita. He is also the archenemy of James Doakes, Arthur Mitchell, and Oliver Saxon.
