About

Milkwood Steiner School is situated on Larrakia country (Darwin) in the tropical north of Australia delivering a Steiner Curriculum to 170 children from Kindergarten to Class 10.

Our school has unique large tropical style buildings with classrooms that open out on to broad verandas, with a playground that extends to a beautiful native bushland. We are a thriving, growing school, with a welcoming community and children from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Acknowledgement

Milkwood Steiner School is situated on Larrakia country. We acknowledge the Larrakia people as the owners of this land and acknowledge the privilege of teaching and learning on Larrakia country. As a school that values community and connection to country, and believe that childhood is sacred, we acknowledge that these values and practices rest on the shoulders of a 60,000 year long history of Aboriginal people teaching, learning, caring for country on this land with wisdom and integrity. We seek to be guided by Indigenous people in order to contribute to healing the wrongs of the past on this land.

In 2021, Milkwood Steiner School granted permission by Larrakia elder, Duwun Lee, to operate as a school on Larrakia land. Milkwood Steiner School was given the Larrakia name, Djandjag (Milkwood Tree).

In 2025, our learning spaces were each given a Larrakia name by Dr Aunty Bilawara Lee and the school began working under Aunty Bilawara’s leadership to embed Larrakia language into our programs. This has been an enormous privilege for our school, and we express our deepest gratitude to the Larrakia Elders and families who have brought their generous leadership, guidance and care to our community. We are all learning.
