Love and Deepspace developer Papergames has canceled the game’s newly announced romance option, Valko, following an enormous backlash from players.
The controversy began after Love and Deepspace unveiled Valko (Ao Yin) as a new romance option. The announcement quickly became one of the game’s most discussed posts on Weibo, receiving more than 750,000 comments:
Some Chinese fans allegedly criticized the character for appearing “too feminine,” prompting the studio to issue a lengthy apology and abandon plans to introduce any future love interests.
According to reports, some players called for a boycott, arguing the character looked too feminine, leading the developers to later state that all of the game’s romanceable characters are heterosexual.
The developer’s lengthy statement:

They argue the character looks too feminine, meanwhile Chinese Boys Band looks exactly this effeminate.
would be hilarious if the incels united together and called out payment processors to report this game “problematic” to get their revenge on the fujos and femcels alike like these freaks did with us
They should just hatefuck each other at this point. I’d love to see the ensuing massacre of sexual confusion on both sides.
Your dreams are weak and pathetic I guess.
I think the bigger issue is it looks like sloppy AI slop.
Feels good to have a taste of your own medicine for once, huh fujos?
