A beautiful young Tom checks out a historic scrape on a snowy day. Buried under the snow are numerous signs left by cougars that visited before him. Tracking a cougar led us to this spot which I was surprised was even a scrape. Located in the middle of a low lying wetland, is a first for me. Always learning with these beautiful animals. #pumaconcolor #felinefriday #bigcatsofinstagram #mountainlion #catamount
State wildlife officials are investigating at least one recent encounter with a cougar on Galbraith Mountain, during which the big cat didn’t appear afraid of nearby humans.
It’s the latest in a series of reports from people who recorded cougar activity on their home camera systems or saw them in the wild — including one sighting near a Bellingham elementary school and another in front of a home in the Geneva neighborhood last month in broad daylight.

Two different male cougars a day apart in the Angeles National Forest. On March 4, 2026 a big sturdy male lion passes by a few of my cameras. Then the next day a different slightly smaller male pays a visit. They both pass by two of the same spots but then head in opposite directions. The story continues.

A male cougar and P-106 navigating the same path just days apart in the late Fall of 2025. A bear featured in this compilation appears to have discomfort in its paw, but appears to have recovered weeks later. This compilation also includes deer, bobcats, foxes, skunks, raccoons, and other bears. #wildlife #conservation #wildlifeenthusiast #santasusanamountains #elusiveanimals
“And when I set my eyes on you
You look like a kitty
And when you’re in the moon
Oh you look so pretty”
A male cougar up above the city in the Angeles National Forest on February 4, 2026. I wonder what he was looking at down below? Possibly some deer, considering that they frequent this area of the forest quite a bit.

Mountain Lion Moment - Today, we froze our fingers and toes off waiting for hours for this beautiful cougar to emerge from its perch and it was worth every moment. It was after sunset when she finally did, but the way she moves is unmistakable. Pure grace and confidence. #mountainlion #cougar #wildlife #nature #reelsviral
Bro really thought he was the one exploring until the King of the Mountain appeared 😂🦁
That moment you realize those glowing eyes were watching you the whole time... 🤦♂️
Be honest: if you saw a cougar looking down at you like that, are you staying or praying?

Chris ane I were watching a movie last night and the driveway camera sent an alert and I was like hey we have a cougar walking up our driveway right now! We have a few cats that have been hanging out lately.
Sometimes it's good to slow down and remember why we’re all here-to spark curiosity and inspire action. When people see animals through our cams, in the wild, in the undisturbed habitat they need to survive, understanding will grow and the need to protect all wildlife will become a priority. Our Wild Lives trail cams have been telling their stories since these earliest days of the project. For this Wild Lives Wednesday, we’re throwing it back to some of our initial Bushnell footage. Bears, a mountain lion, elk and yes, an equally important squirrel…all captured when this camera trap program was just beginning.
This feels like a good moment to reflect, because we just finished something we’re quite proud of: our 12-part series on cougar history and ecology. Thank you for following along as we explored the complex history of the mountain lion, their unique characteristics, and the nuanced conservation challenges they face today. The full series is pinned in our highlights under “Lion Info” for anyone who wants to fully dive in or just freshen up their knowledge on a concept or two.
From deep dives to unique insights, here at The Cougar Fund, we'll keep sharing stories about the cougar and its equally impressive neighbors. Keep following along to learn more about them, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the moments where your voice and attention matter most.
this big kitty going on a stroll in the dark
Mountain lions are most active at night and during low light hours, which helps them move quietly and avoid being seen. They rely on stealth more than speed, using cover and darkness to get close before making a move. Trail cams like this catch how casually they move through areas you’d never even know they’re in.

We live in our very own sort of Africa co-existing as we do with BIG CATS!
This video was taken next to our house and shows a pride of three cougars strolling along in the early morning hours. Sleek and graceful, they are solitary and secretive animals rarely seen in the wild. Also known as mountain lions or pumas, they are known for their powerful strength, agility, and AMAZING ability to jump (up to 40 feet in a single bound).
There is LOTS for them to eat here including deer and elk… Contrary to popular belief, attacks on humans are extremely rare and are usually due to being driven out of their normal hunting grounds. We feel super lucky to share our lives in the meadows and forests of our home with them. Or maybe it’s them sharing with us!
The stars of the trail cameras, it's always exciting to get a mountain lion. I've had the chance to chase photos of these guys a few times, using trail cameras as tools to track them down. Stick around to the end to see a couple fun shots! Follow my page for more wildlife! Thanks for watching!
