I love the concept of Link’s character so much I drew 72 frames about him coming to terms with his shitty destiny with the help of his former selves, and I regret nothing :V I started this back in august 2017 but only got about halfway before I got distracted, so there’s some jarring style changes at times but at least it only looks better the further you get. Funny story: I didn’t think this video made it up on YouTube because it got copyright striked when I tried to upload it. Today, I was surprised to see it on the recommended page in my private account and even more surprised to see an absolute wall of beautiful, kind comments, and that this seemingly dead channel somehow had gained 1000+ subscribers. Thank each and every one of you so much for your kind words, I’m really happy that this thing I made a very long time ago now still touches people who share my love for the Zelda series. Unfortunately I don’t have as much time for drawing these days as I used to. I’ve also kind of ruined my drawing hand a little bit which haven’t helped with the output either, but I do still have a passion for art and animatics, my means of pursuing it are just not great at the moment. I mostly post on Twitter as of right now, so when I do get to draw stuff I usually post it there. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t do a lot of fan art these days, but if you want to follow me despite of that my handle is @lordlovisa But once again, thank you a thousand times!! Reading through the comments and seeing that the story that I wanted to tell came across in the end is a wonderful thing to be told. Whenever I get to making another animatic I’ll be sure to let you know! And every coward that thinks the noses are too big can crawl back to their inferior-nosed anime waifus in shame (I’m kidding ofc, they were kinda big and misplaced on the face in places, but I will defend my head canon of bird-nose OoT Link until I die it’s based on his ridiculous in-game model and I love him)

Sky looks so sympathetic and looks at Wild with pity, even giving him a thumbs up, while Twilight just looks so haggard and gaunt since he knows what a burden the destiny they carry is and has a nature sort of respect but also sadness that the cycle continues. I love the details

Legend of Zelda is truly a tragedy, the same players are reincarnated eternally forever, the king of evil, the princess, and the hero. They are each tied to a destiny that is forever repeating. Do you think that Hylia wishes to shed her mortal form, forever trapped, unable to freely help here people whenever she wants. Stuck in a loop of sealing the evil away, hoping for a savior to come to, to by time. Do you think the Hero wishes to reject his duty, to for once not have the world on his shoulders. To not be at best a knight way over their head and at worst a kid who achievements are lost to the world. Do you think Demise regrets his curse, that he did not think it would take this long. Do you think he wishes for the cycle of endless failure to end. Maybe that's why he is little more than a barely sapient beast by now, his mind is broken, he is no longer their. A fate that is worse than death, an unending cycle of hollow victories.

I love that all the Links, Zeldas and Ganondorfs walk together, like the past doesn't matter and they realize that they are each a part of the same thing. I think I even saw the Twilight Princess Ganondorf put a hand on Link's shoulder as they walked away.

Now I want a Zelda game where Link is finally aware of all his past incarnations and strives to finally break free of Demise's cycle of reincarnation using the Full Triforce. EDIT: I want Zelda and Ganondorf to be aware too. Imagine a game where Ganondorf is tired of constantly fighting, dying, and being the monster because he realizes he's as much a slave to the Demise's Curse as the rest of the world.

I love that in this context, Ganondorf was a victim of Demise’s curse. That this eternal clash between good and evil is because of this evil force from Ages long forgotten.

GOD OKAY. Twilight Link’s sad eyes of an aged man in a young face, SS Link trying to encourage him at least a little by giving him a thumbs up, Twilight Zelda’s knowledge of what’s to come, The Hero’s Shade’s Zelda putting an arm on his back to comfort him because he’s probably always been the one to tell the new Link what’s to come and almost breaks down every time because it doesn’t get any easier having to tell someone their life is not up to them and that it will never truly be in any reincarnation or form. Of course they all know they should be proud to be written in every era in history one way or another, but having your fate be predestined by forces out of your control and having your whole life predecided for you before you were born? No one but the continued reincarnations of the three could understand that pain, rage, and grief of a life you lost just by existing, and you must now live one out of your control, never truly being your own. I mean, The Hero’s Shade’s expressions of pure grief and regret that will plague him forever, his face when Majora’s Moon shows up and he closes his eyes to take that split second for himself, knowing there’s nothing that he or anyone can do to end this cycle or make it any easier to hear and that they all must go on, carrying the knowledge they’ve all already played their part and one of the oldest must now bear the burden of telling this all new Link— struck with amnesia and no knowledge of who he is or who he can trust— this aged, grief-stricken, wise spirit has to tell this poor young kid that his life is a predestined paradox that must continue and he’ll never know if what he did was right until it’s over??? I’m LOSING IT.

I feel like Orcarina of Time Link and Breath of the Wild Link have the most tragic storyline. OoT Link watched Hyrule go to ruin unable to do anything then when he beat Ganondorf he was sent back in time and nobody remembered him as the hero he was, making him become depressed. Botw Link nearly died and slept for 100 years as Hyrule went to ruin. All of his friends died and when he woke up he had amnesia and even if he could remember, mostly everyone he cared about was dead anyway and he couldn't do anything to stop it. All of their fates have been decided for them the second they were born and it's really depressing when you really look into it.

I love the fact that when everything is all said and done nobody wins, everybody is just tired and scared from the constant fighting in life. Even ganondorf walks alongside his zelda and link as they move on

I love how all of the Link's have completely different personalities, and you captured that PERFECTLY! the subtle things, like Skyward giving the thumbs up, Twilight looking more concerned and mature, all the zelda's portrayed by their games, Ocarina with his depression and hope for the future. It's something that is so prominently in the games but ignored overall....you got it down! I love that :)

From 1:16 on, it seems oddly motivational and awe-inspiring when all the Zeldas, Links, and Ganons walk together while Wild is just standing there. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels so cool to me.

The Hero of TIme being traumatized by the events of Majora's Mask - having to relive that horrific 3 days over and over again, seeing people die right in front of him, knowing death was literally looming right above him, and becoming the Hero's Shade is so haunting and powerful. He works perfectly in this.

I love this scenario if "The Legend of Zelda" becomes an animated movie: Link, sometime after Ganondorf abducts Zelda, feels he is to blame for everything. As he lacks the confidence to uphold the destiny the rests on his shoulders and how he feels pressured that he can't live up to the other wielders of the Master Sword in the past generations. He is then contacted & encouraged by his ancestors to do what is right.

I also love how OOT Zelda looks at him as she leaves. Of almost all other Zeldas she believed in him the most. Her eyes just had so much hope because like every link before him, he will succeed as the story is supposed to go.

I have ADHD and have been severely hyperfixated on legend of zelda and it’s lore since I was a little kid. I’m turning 18 in 3 months and my birthday present will be a tattoo of the triforce of power. Everytime i watch this I cry. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted and perfectly fits my view of this universe i love so so much. Thank you for making this, I know you probably won’t see this because it’s really old now, but if you do please know this video means the world to me.

Ahhhhhhh... hhhhhh...... it really hurts in a good way that you included the Ganondorfs as spirits guiding him??? They get dealt a REAL shitty hand in Legend of Zelda writing and I love love LOVE that you included them as some of the spirits saying "these are the lessons we learned, you do not control who survives, your legend will survive you". I just... hghk, it hurts. Especially the moment when poor BotW Link, who doesn't even have half his memories, tries to pull away from this horrible destiny, this horrible fate, and is penned in by his past incarnations with their grim, pitying expressions??? No one WANTS this outcome, but it's this-- this awful INEVITABILITY, this necessity, and it really captures the tragedy that fascinates me in Zelda's lore. I love this animatic so much. Thank you!

I have to stop and watch this every time it comes into my feed. Seeing Ganondorf alongside the heroes and princesses is... heartbreaking. His story is a tragedy. The Ganondorf we first met, the one from Ocarina of Time, sought something better for his people. He moved to take it by force. We see in Wind Waker his regret, his realization, his anger with the gods. He saw the fortune of Hyrule and moved to take it. His people suffered for his decision. And yet... we see in Breath of the Wild that the gerudo prosper, they live on, they have all they need and more... now that he is gone. Ganondorf didn’t choose to be born the reincarnation of a dark God’s hatred... but he did choose to give in to the dark desires it gave him. I’ve always wanted to see a story somewhere, one where a Ganondorf lives among his people and has to make that choice. Will he listen to the dark god of destruction, wreathed in the fires of hatred, or will he accept the light of a goddess, one who’s flaming arms brought forth the land and governs the Power he so frequently wields?
