Distorted Face Emoji Meaning
Approved in September 2025 as part of Emoji 17.0 and now available on most platforms.
A smiley face with large, bulging eyes looking upward, as though being distorted or warped.
Resembles a fisheye lens effect and may be used figuratively to represent shock, amazement, or distress, as per a visual trope seen in anime and manga. May also be used more literally to depict a face being inflated or crushed. Some platforms include raised eyebrows, while others omit them.
Google’s design is derived from an Emoji Kitchen mashup of two 😳 Flushed Face emojis, though it omits the raised eyebrows seen in the mashup.
Following its release in an iOS 26.4 developer beta, some media outlets compared this emoji to a scene in Apple’s 2024 “Crush!” iPad Pro advertisement, where a rubber emoji toy is compressed by an industrial press.
