Here’s a map of the original names of Palestinian cities before its colonization.
Why does it matter to know this? Because changing the names as part of colonialism is not new in history.
Learning about the history of colonialism and imperialism is important. When we say educate yourself on these matters, it’s because you need to learn to recognize patterns and prevent them from reoccurring.
The idea of the West being civilized is all a sham. The idea of Arabs being terrorists is a mere lie similar to the endless lies that have been told about Native Americans and many other indigenous groups.
If you’re going to use the word ‘terrorist’, it’s about time you use it on the real enemy.

It was built in ancient Canaan and was ruled by the Canaanites, the Egyptians, the Philistines, the Israelites, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, the Phoenicians, the Ptolemies, the Seleucids, the Hasmoneans, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Islamic Caliphates, the Crusaders, the Ayyubids, the Mamluks, the Ottomans, and finally the British, before Israel was established. It was called Yafo by the ancient Israelites, and that names carries on today
Al-Lydd was not built as a Palestinian city. It has history stretching back to the Neolithic Period. It was called Lod by the ancient Israelites. It was a Jewish center during the Roman occupation. It was called “Al-Ludd” 600 years later when it was conquered by Muslims, then St. Jeorge de Lidde by the Crusaders 400 years after that, then Lydda by the Mamluks, until it was renamed Lod by Israelis
Ashkelon is built near Ascalon, which was an ancient Canaanite seaport, and was destroyed in 1270. Ascalon was populated in the Bronze Age by the Philistines, an ancient group of invaders and pillagers. Askalan is the Arabic name for the ancient site
Zekharia was founded as Beit Zekharia, a Jewish city during the Roman occupation. It is named after the Jewish prophet of the same name. It was renamed Zakariyya by Mamluk conquerors
Modern Be'er Sheva was established by the Ottomans in the start of the 20th century. It is near the ancient city of Be'er Sheva, which was founded by the ancient Israelites.
Umm al-Rashrash was not a Palestinian city. It was a police station consisting of five clay huts
Jerusalem was founded as Jerusalem (Urusalimum in Egyptian or Yerushalayim in Hebrew) in the Bronze Age. It was also called City of David and Zion. Al-Quds is a shortening of Madinat Al-Quds, the “city of the holy sanctuary”, referring to the ancient Israelite Temple of Solomon, built around the 10th century BCE. It is similar to the name Ir HaKodesh, the “Holy City”, an ancient Hebrew nickname for the city

the name Israel has been used to refer to the land since the Kingdom of Israel was established sometime in the 10th century BCE. The Roman Emperor Hadrian renamed the land Syria Palaestina after the Bar Kokhba revolt in 135 CE–more than 1000 years later–possibly as an insult to the Jewish population at the time. The British Mandate in Palestine takes its name from there
In short, almost all of these names are simply Arabic names for cities that already existed when Arabs conquered the land. Many of them are Arabic translations of Hebrew or Phoenician names. Both Arabic and Hebrew names are equally valid, as both groups have lived in proximity for thousands of years. Many Israeli cities are built on or in Palestinian cities that were ethnically cleansed during the Nakba (such as Kiryat Shmona). That’s something worth talking about. Lying about history isn’t
