Five years after the defeat of Count Hudu, Zane and Zaphilia are set to marry. However, mid-ceremony, a demon interrupts and everyone is forced to escape. In the confusion, Zane is taken away by the demon. Despite the help of Anya, Dalnaycus and Dorian, Zaphilia is unable to defeat it and is also forced to run away. Just as she begins to leave the city, the Seer's Servant appears to give her the following message from the Seer:

"It was dark. It was hot. The gate stood right in
front, but without the four, it couldn't be opened.
The scorching heat guides you. The light is in the
path. You have the wisdom to find this place."

Just who is the Seer, and how does he know about Zaphilia's plight?

Upon reaching the Volcano that the group think the Seer was talking about, the demon returns and transports a defenseless Zaphilia into the past.
Is all hope lost, or is there a way to save Zendir's future without completely unraveling the fabric of time...?

Zendir is a world of monsters and magic. The decisions that Zaphilia makes in the past may well affect the future, especially in terms of quests brand-new to Zendir: Grey Quests. In Grey Quests, there is no right or wrong answer to the mission, but one decision chosen may make someone happy and someone else unhappy. The results may also affect other quests. Dare you find out?
Also brand-new to Zendir 2 are hidden bosses. Hidden bosses are locked away behind doors and devious puzzles, for good reason. They may oliberate an unprepared party, but do you think the rewards outweigh the risks? Why not find out?
And finally, to spice the story up, there are quest-relevant mini-games.

CharactesZ2.png

ZAPHILIA:
The determined, thick-skulled main character. She doesn't let anything get in her way - or Zane's. Rather than see an entire city burn, she'd probably see a few suffer, but the circumstances behind her choices may change. But for the better or worse...?

ZANE:
Having been Zaphilia's lover since childhood, he's finally summed up the courage to ask to marry Zaphilia. Predictably, he doesn't manage to do so due to a mid-ceremony interruption, but he'll wait until the end of time to be reunited with the one he loves.

ANYA:
Probably the only person in the group to speak sense, Anya's often setting things right. Now coming up to her teenage years, Anya's maturity has developed quickly - and it shows. She can now hold her own in a battle, and would rather see the world freed than destroyed.

DALNAYCUS:
His love for jokes hasn't faded since the first game, but with Dorian around, he's often forced into either taking them back or modifying them into versions that would embarrass his friends. Of course, much of his speech is in jest and shouldn't be taken seriously - he fights as well as he speaks.

DORIAN:
Like Anya to Zaphilia, he is Dalnaycus' counterpart, knocking sense into him where required. Within the five years since defeating Count Hudu, he's grown far braver than he thought possible, and now loves throwing axes around. Well, not really, but he's still got a sturdy defense.

RIDORE:
A character new into Zendir 2, Ridore's intentions in helping Zaphilia are unknown, but it appears that she merely wants to help those who cannot help herself. Could her past have anything to do with it - or even Zothros, the person she was speaking to just before she met Zaphilia?

LUCIEN:
An arrogant, hard-headed but yellow-haired man, Lucien is the epitome of who would most likely be expelled from the Magic Academy. His aversion to all things nice turns many away from him, as does his attitude. His skill with magic is blinding though, being one of the best magicians around.

ZOTHROS:
A man shrouded in mystery, his hair is oiled and sleek, much like what's been revealed of his personality in the short exposure he's had in the demo. He evidently loves blackmailing others, but does he have a specific motivation for doing so?

Ok, played a bit until the Crashuto Port.

Some bugs or errors I've found (until now):

- The timer that starts after the cave is collapsing got stuck at 0 for the whole rest of the game (you have to hide it).

- The girl with brown hair walking in the Inn of Galapoca doesn't talk (don't know if this is intentional or not).

- Some grammar mistakes here and there, but nothing too big.

- A bit odd that random music system during the battles (sometimes I hear the village music during the battles which sounds kinda weird, or the epic final boss theme against a simple bee), I suggest you to remove this system and use simple tracks.

- Found a random battle in the swamp after the port (is it intentional?)

----

I like the fact that every NPC in the game has a portrait, plus the story is intriguing and the mapping is good (not bad or great, just good, even if it looks a bit weird in some places).

I suggest you also to buff some enemies a bit, most of them are too damn weak.

Overall despite this, it was good and enjoyable, the characters are likeable and the gameplay is good, gonna play the rest when I have some spare time.

- Huh? There is no timer in the cave! Did you mean the one in the passage? If so, can you detail in a PM what you did?

- Ah, thank you!

- Can you say where? Some might be intentional NPC speech.

- I will have to look at the music again, once I get my hearing-aid sorted. Had to cut that but of dev short for that reason (long story).

- Yes, ambushes can occur in 2 of the maps. They are rare though. Think of it as a bird swooping down.

Regarding weak enemies, they do get strong near the endgame. The start is meant to have them really weak to show the power of the characters post-Zendir 1 (including OP equipment) but there is a scale up again toward the end :)

If more people comment the game is too easy, I'm happy to release a more difficult version (plus script+event patches!)

Thanks for playing so far! :D

Sorry for the late reply pal, I was a bit busy lately.

- My mistake, but I didn't do anything special, I just came out from it and the bug happened.

- Can you say where? Some might be intentional NPC speech.
- Forgot where, will replay everything tonight and recheck.

Multiple difficulty levels would be an awesome addition, although it's an option a bit hard to implement (without having balance issues).

The game has potential however, I like it, I'll play also the first one, soon as I have some spare time.

That's fine :)

Alright - if you need it, I'll put in a secret event in the extended bug-fixed edition for you to activate (I'll tell you where it is) and you can activate it to remove the timer. I've put in a fail-safe from my end for anyone else that might suffer the same issue. Does that sound ok?

EDIT: NOW I understand what you did! You didn't hide! :p Time to put an anti-pass event in there until the hiding is done lol.

Yeah, the general consensus toward difficulty levels though is that it's a bit of a negative addition because you're meant to play the role of the character, rather than tailor the game's experience to yourself.

Again, thanks for playing and let me know if there are any more issues :)

P.S: You don't HAVE to play the first one until I make a remastered edition of it... Just sayin' :p

Hello there. I've finally gotten round to playing this sequel. So far about an hour and a half in and it's been pretty good. The game flows well and you don't get lost anywhere or confused as to where to go next or what to do. So really enjoying it in that regard.

I also like how you've executed the plot, about going back to the past and even getting to meet the first game's villain again and to see how he managed to gain favour with the king.

Some of the scenes perhaps could've been done a bit better, like in particular the dialogue. Like that part where Zaphilia loses her whole party and all her items, she just nonchalantly says that she lost all her items as if she was a narrator as opposed to the person who actually just lost all their items and friends.
I also agree with Dalph that it is quite weird how the music in random battles changes around and at times you'd get boss themes playing in the fights with the most basic of enemies. Another thing, I noticed that many characters had custom-made portraits, but some have just been given RTP faces, like Dorian who was just given Eric's face. I think it would've been better to give him and a few other important characters those custom-made portraits as well, like the ones you've done for Dalnaycus, Lucien, and Ridore.

I think I mistakenly overlooked Eric's face still being in the database when I went around updating all those faces. It's not an urgent bug, but it will be fixed one day :)

The same issue with the music, I'll try and get it (and the bug associated with) fixed :)

Glad you're enjoying it so far, I'll take your suggestions into account!

Cool. I've been playing some more. The game definitely does have a certain level of charm to it and is noticeably better than the first. The mapping is good and the music choices are great too. Although with music I noticed it changes too frequently between the locations. Like I might be traversing 4 connected field maps and it will have 4 different tracks playing in each one.

Another thing, I am now at a point where regular battles seem to take ages. Enemies just seem to have way too much health and none of my magics or other special attacks really do any considerable damage. I find that poison is like the best skill to use, because it deals dmg on a %ge basis. It started happening pretty much after we left Gerdon and started heading South and it's worse now in the area around Blizzet and the Plains of Sorrow and Hopelessness. Is it supposed to be like that or am I forgetting to use something?

I also noticed there are some optional mini-bosses. Not sure yet what they're for, but I did get some shiny nice gear from them, so that was pretty cool. I do like the nice little touches in the game. Like that messenger guy suddenly appearing and crossing the bridge and then I met him later at one of the villages. Also it's cool how you get unique encounters at times, like those two birds, one black and one white. It was a nice fight, though I was shaking my fist at them repeatedly for casting curago so much on each other. I also like how the touch encounters are executed. It's not too easy to dodge them I noticed, which is good.
Anyways, I'll keep posting feedback as I get further.

EDIT: OK, so I've completed the game. Didn't expect it to end so soon actually. I feel as though there could've been more stuff closer to the end, but on the other hand maybe forcing more stuff isn't right.

I've tried out both of the endings. Interesting choice posed there. From what I've gathered either choice really leads to the same events, since Zaphilia is still present in the future even if she dies in the volcano (or maybe her future will just turn out differently, hmm; time travel can be confusing). But either way, the endings were executed quite nicely, so overall I enjoyed the game. I might write a review on it on my personal blog and send you a link if that's all right. I am guessing Zendir 3 will follow the ending where you chose to live, right?

Wooooah, you finished the game. Congratulations!

Yes, the ending will follow the one where you chose to live, thus ending the time paradox that would've otherwise happened (i.e: 'die' = leads you back into Zendir 1, 'live' = Zendir 3 :) )
Sure, you can write a review on your blog :D Do indeed link me when you've posted it ^_^

Yeah, the ending did feel a little 'sudden' when I made it, but I couldn't really extend it more without making it feel a bit of a bore since a lot of the loose ends were pretty much wrapped up by that point.

Good point about the music, nobody commented on that before. Maybe I can see if I can make the changes a little more subtle between the locations, or make the locations a little bit larger so that they don't change so often?

If the game ever feels difficult at any point, best skills to use are those that boost your party's stats, and if you're still having issues, then buy better weapons/armour and/or level up one or two times.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game and its little quirks XD

Hope to see you around when Zendir 3 is complete too :D

Yeah, I've had lots of fun playing through it. I'll definitely be sure to check out Zendir 3. And yeah, if you felt that there was nothing else to add before the ending, then it's all fine. It's better to keep things fresh but short rather than padding out with extra content just to make it longer.

With the enemies, I didn't really find them hard (maybe only select few). Most were pretty easy and I never got wiped out or anything. It's just that they could take in a bit too much punishment for their own good. It felt a bit like trying to crack a rock with a toothpick. Oh, also, how come Ridore didn't have any other skills apart from the Atk buff?

Ridore originally was meant to have other skills, but they were quite hard to integrate into the gameplay and yet keep it balanced. As you said, the game wasn't punishingly hard, but I toned down the enemies after a few people playing the original version got wiped out. Generally, elemental weaknesses should help you beat the enemies faster :) I agree though, sometimes it can feel like that especially if your party has high health.

I'll see what I can do for Ridore at a later date :)

Updated to the Extended Edition v2.2!

Numerous bugs have been fixed, and the opening and ending have both been extended.

Enjoy!

I would love to play it again, but RapidShare won't let me download it for some reason.

It says: This file exceeds your daily limit.

I suggest you to host it on another place.

I will send you a dropbox version :) (the dropbox one isn't public as too many downloads lock up my account)
