Trump's continued support is 'unfathomable' | Your Say

Some MAGA wit coined the term “Trump Derangement Syndrome” to describe people like me—those who deeply oppose President Donald Trump. My opinion of Trump is based on the many horrible and destructive things he did in his first term and continues to do in his current term, not from some mental illness problem. 

In fact, one could just as easily describe the unwavering loyalty of hardcore MAGA supporters as “Trump Devotion Syndrome,” a phrase I encountered in Texas Monthly. Their willingness to overlook—or rationalize—the often outrageous and sometimes constitutionally questionable things Trump does on an almost daily basis is, to me, unfathomable.

Since returning to office, he has:

1. Pardoned those involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection

2. Proposed we annex Greenland, Canada and even the Panama Canal—actions straight out of his buddy Vladimir Putin's playbook 

3. Instituted a totally chaotic program of on-again off-again tariffs that has disrupted the world economy 

4. Created DOGE, a supposed economic reform program led by a billionaire appointee. Of the $2 trillion in promised savings, less than 10% has been identified, and much of that appears to target essential services.

5. Failed to bring immigration promises to fruition, having a marginal impact at best that has been plagued by sloppy and often unconstitutional execution 

6. Issued more than 150 executive orders, many of them symbolic or trivial (e.g., banning paper straws, eliminating the penny, mandating higher water pressure), which appear aimed at expanding presidential authority over Congress.

7. Falsely claimed that Ukraine was responsible for the war, and it has become crystal clear that his belief in his ability to stop the war was a fantasy 

And this is only in the first four months. One can only imagine what the next 44 months might bring.
