Bill Maher gets this one right

This content is not subject to review by Daily Kos staff prior to publication.

APFILE – In this June 30, 2019, file photo, U.S. President Donald Trump, left, meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the North Korean side of the border at the village of Panmunjom in Demilitarized Zone. Kim on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 sent a message of sympathy to Trump and his wife Melania, wishing they would recover from the COVID-19 illness, state media reported. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh, File)

Sometimes I like the stuff posted by Bill Maher. I don’t always agree with him but I am not troubled that he calls out some nonsense on the left because he will often do the same to the right. I’ve not paid as much attention to him lately because I felt he was getting heavy handed on his attacks on the left but I managed to catch this clip on YouTube & he eloquently explained why he is not a Republican.

Addendum — paraphrased summary for those who cannot tolerate listening to Maher anymore:

“to those on the right who keep asking (Bill)…”You are so good at roasting the woke nonsense on the left, why don’t you… join us on the right?” To which (Bill) respond(s); “because I don’t want to live in N. Korea.” He then proceeds to list many of the ways that Trump’s followers suck up to Trump.

The heading of the video is “New Rule: Trump Devotion Syndrome”

Of course, I was always inclined to stick with Trump Derangement Syndrome but to apply it to his followers rather than his critics. It’s TDS either way.

We'll get straight to the point: The financial hardships that Daily Kos is facing this year are tough.

We continue to be paywall-free. We continue to be supported by our readers, not billionaires or corporations. But we need to bring in more revenue. We are leaning on our community more than ever to help make ends meet.

      He’s still an asshole.

“Woke nonsense” is the default comment of a lifelong beneficiary of white privilege. The horrifying maternal mortality rates for pregnant women of color in the American southern states are not “woke nonsense”. They are an ongoing intentional human tragedy resulting from centuries of structural racism that people like Maher pigheadedly refuse to see.

I think that anyone still watching or following this asshole are part of the problem.

Mr. Maher was my neighbor growing up.

You'll forgive me (or not) for continuing to keep track of him. But I reject your sweeping condemnation.

I try to go light with superlatives, in part because MAGA seems so fond of them.

Maher calls what HE thinks is nonsense on the left and often mistakes repub framing for ‘Liberals’ beliefs and Democratic policies.

You could publish the text. I can’t stand looking at Maher or hearing his voice anymore.

To me, watching Bill Maher is a journey.

He’ll say things that make you “f**king A, right on” and then he’ll go into his bits about wokeness, PC, etc that make you want to turn him off. He always works in the schtick of “we went too far with COVID” into nearly every single show and it’s tiring to listen too.

Maher is not a good interviewer, IMHO. His 1 on 1 interviews with Ted Cruz, Elon Musk, Megyn Kelly, etc to me were too obsequious and candy-assed. He doesn’t really challenge those types. His other interviews are pretty much puff pieces.

The best part of his show are the panels. He generally (but not always) has good guests and back and forth on his panels.

MAGA are a cult — and then he gives a bunch of examples, all funny.

Trump Devotion Syndrome — “ Careful, don’t get any in your hair.”

He can zing AND he can harp; not quite fingernail/chalkboard grade, but yes, he seems

to have some long festering grudges to settle.

              Elsewhere, Bill, please.
