the irony of sweeney calling steam a monopoly while doing exactly this never gets old

[–]HubblePie 112 points113 points  (18 children)

"But I don't have a monopoly because my platform isn't popular!"

[–]sur_surly 25 points26 points  (8 children)

And steam never did this (afaik)

[–]UpvotingLooksHard 16 points17 points  (7 children)

They did with things like half-life but that was also at the very start of Steam when it wasn't very popular and had issues. I mean you could argue all valve games but they haven't paid a third party for exclusivity for sure

[–]RazzyBoyRo 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I mean even Valve games were on playstation at some point

[–]john43bravo 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah, and totally ignored for updates (looking at you TF2)

[–]RazzyBoyRo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can thank Sony for asking for money to push updates on their platform during the ps3 era.

[–]Sircandyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets not forget about the CSGO port...

[–]h-arlequim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epic published games are also on the Playstation and other consoles, though.

[–]catgamer109 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it is their launcher they made SPECIFICALLY for valve games

[–]tremendoculaso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The orange box was released on PS3, CSGO too, but there was a problem, everytime some dev wanted to publish an update to their game they had to pay Sony a fee. The Valve games where updated constantly, specially CSGO so that wasn't profitable on PS3.

The game Awesomenauts stopped updating on PS3 because of this and went a PC first game. They were an indie studio and didn't want to waste money everytime they need to update their game.

[–]JackieSnowDaPlowMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would Sydney Sweeney call it that?

[–]Dysmn -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

you have to be a special kind of dumb to want steam to be the only store on pc.

[–]SpicyNoodles180 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don’t think that’s what op is suggesting at all…

[–]Dysmn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

it is.

[–]Nustaniel 168 points169 points  (55 children)

This one disappoints me the most, as Ueda has made some really iconic games. I can't imagine Ueda would have had trouble getting funding for a game that didn't require exclusivity to a storefront. I can't hate Epic Games enough over going from frustrating timed exclusives to straight up permanent exclusives by buying themselves the full publishing rights of third-party games. Straight up monopolistic behavior, where they try even harder to strongarm users into adoption because they are not given any other alternatives. Meanwhile Sweeny b-tches about Steam being a monopoly, when if Steam did something that really upset the userbase tomorrow, within a week they would have moved over to competing storefronts, because they are not operating in a monopoly and users have a choice. Sigh.. another dead game to me. Doesn't hurt as bad as Alan Wake, because that ruined a franchise I loved and any future releases that may be on Steam is essentially missing its sequel, so I won't want to buy it, but this still stinks. God I hate Epic so much.

[–]CMNilo 174 points175 points  (26 children)

Permanent exclusives justify piracy, IMO

[–]AncientPCGamerModerator 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Permanent exclusive means that Jack Sparrow is also publishing the game. Arrrr.

[–]Valuable_Impress_192 22 points23 points  (15 children)

Piracy requires zero justification bro just do it or not who cares

[–]Belltower_2GabeN 41 points42 points  (12 children)

As a general rule, people don't just pirate for no reason unless they live in a third-world country. Despite what the publishers, most players WILL buy games if it's readily available and they can afford it; common reasons for piracy include abandonware, store / platform exclusivity, and anti-consumer decisions.

[–]WhosThatDogMrPB 14 points15 points  (2 children)

As a person that lives in a third-world country (whatever the fuck that means), my family used to pirate stuff because it was convenient and dirty cheap. No morality, just a better deal.

Now that I'm an adult with enough third-world money, I still pirate because companies won't make it accesible to me at a good price (looking at you, entire japanese entertainment industry).

[–]Nova762 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Because Japanese entertainment is a necessity you can't live without.  Better steal it because it's not affordable to you.  Great idea.

[–]After_Suggestion_267 0 points1 point  (1 child)

there is also another reason : games published by EA or games over 50-60$ for no reason... especially remakes. i do not support how the industry is actively fcking over the players with bigger margins while having no real reason why. for example i wish i would have pirated ARK because i spent over 5 hours trying to get it to work to connect to a friend and then abandonned after trying everything, now im down 25 bucks...

[–]Nova762 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't support it by not buying it.  Stealing because salty is hilarious.  Just don't play it.

[–]Dramatic-Shape5574 -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Speaking as a shitty person who has pirated a game that I can afford, no. You are wrong.

[–]BigDadNads420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and a minority of people are a shitty as you are. Thats the point.

[–]Nova762 -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

People like to justify to themselves why they are stealing.  Still stealing.   Still a piece of shit.

[–]porkmoss 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What’s your line? I pirated Grand Knights History and used a translation patch. I buy all of these developer’s titles that are available to me, but they don’t want me as a customer for their older stuff despite there being a ton of demand for them in the west. We didn’t even get the modern rereleases. I could have bought the game and patched it but if you don’t want me to buy it I’ll oblige. If I just wanted to steal games I wouldn’t have bought every single version of RE4 and Mirror’s Edge.

[–]Jeksxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seven seas!

[–]carnyzzleFortnite Killed UT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]idkjustarandomdude 41 points42 points  (11 children)

i find it so fucking funny they say steam has a monopoly then fucking epic does this

[–]deanrihpeeLinux Gamer 24 points25 points  (3 children)

the moment Valve buy some game's publishing right, all the states in the US + UK + Canada + Sweeney will sue Valve and Gabe separately, i don't know if that legally makes sense or not, I'm not a lawyer, but i feel like that is what's going to happen

[–]Nustaniel 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don't see Valve ever doing that anyways. But yeah, I am certain if Valve had bought third-party exclusive publishing rights for Steam alone, everyone would be at their throats for monopolistic practices.

If Valve ever published a game, I would imagine they would let it be for any store the developer wanted it to be on. Leaving it a choice for the developer. It's like Proton, they have funded the development of that and other projects (like FEX which benefit ARM chipsets) and Linux gaming is in such a good place now thanks to Valve. That benefits their SteamOS, of course, which is what powers the Steam Deck, and what will power the upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame as well, but every single distro out there benefits. It's not like they locked it down and made it proprietary and tied to Steam. It's open-source, anyone can fork it. Anyone can contribute. You don't even need Steam to use Proton to play Windows-targeted games on Linux. Thanks to Proton, other launchers like the Heroic Games Launcher exist which allows you to use Proton to launch and play games you may have purchased on GOG, gotten from Amazon Luna and even Epic Games. Epic Games can literally benefit from Valve's investment into Linux.

I just don't see Valve as the type of company that would have restricted the developers ability to sell the game elsewhere if they so chose, had Valve helped fund and publish it. Especially today's Valve.

[–]NutsackEuphoria 0 points1 point  (1 child)

idk I think one of Valve's conditions for S&box was that it will only be released on steam, but correct me if i'm wrong

[–]Nustaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, would make sense as it is as far as I remember a modified version of the Source 2 engine not available really to anyone else. Also seems to be very integrated with Steamworks I guess, Workshop and all that. Kinda didn't think about s&box though, so you're right. Come to think of it, I believe one of the terms if you make a standalone game with s&box is also that you must sell it on Steam, but can sell it on other platforms alongside Steam. I mean, that's fair enough I guess, since you don't need to pay any engine royalties or anything if I remember correctly.

[–]NutsackEuphoria 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's why Epic getting a large marketshare would spell really really bad news to pc gaming.

Imagine someone with 5% marketshare already acting like this.

[–]Nustaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think that if Epic could, they would buy exclusivity for every single game that releases on PC. To give buyers no choice but their storefront. That is why I refuse to use Epic. I hate the monopolistic practices they are engaging in and I don't trust its longevity as a store when they run it at such an unsustainable operational loss that they have to fire a thousand employees in their pursuit to try gain market adoption. If Epic at least competed on providing a better service, a better user experience, I'd be far more open to buying games there.

[–]BoTheJoV3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

this is how epic is competing with steam. Its just like a console exclusive

[–]idkjustarandomdude 0 points1 point  (1 child)

well so far xbox as everything on pc iisc
and sony well just pulled out of putting their game on pc

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox has console exclusives again announced during their showcase today, but that doesn't mean they don't come to PC. Gears and Clockwork both releases on PC day one simultaneously with the Xbox releases, but they won't come to PS5 or the Switch 2. I guess I also saw that more indie game Bad Magpie listed as a Xbox console exclusive. Again, it will release on PC though. Honestly makes sense, as PC gaming, while Linux is seeing adoption, is still largely Microsoft and games are developed for DX12, which means for Winslop 11.

Sony however, yeah, no Wolverine, no Until Dawn 2, no Mom of War. And well no Yotei. Remains to be seen if Sony keeps out of the PC market again permanently or comes back with some delayed releases. Really depends on how well the next generation of consoles perform I'd guess, with prices being as bad as they've gotten.

Side-note: Really respect that Xbox are willing to show all platforms in their trailers, including the PS5, if announced games are coming to their competitor also. Sony would never. Every PS5 trailer typically only lists PS5 even if the games are coming to other platforms too.

[–]deanrihpeeLinux Gamer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

so Epic doing actual monopolistic behaviour by buying the publishing right is a no problem, but Valve is big problems from the governments, especially after defeating that patent troll (yes i know, among all other problems Valve had like gambling, and MFN, at least they are improving, i guess, but still)

[–]ChefSnowWithTheWrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone hate epic? To me I never really even cared where a game was sold at, but some of my friends just refuse to play anything on the epic store and the only reason they give me is "fuck epic". I'm genuinely curious why people hate epic games so much. Am I just out of the loop?

[–]JohnHue 79 points80 points  (5 children)

Epic is the only reason why I went back on the high seas for games. I buy all my games that are not EGS exclusives, I've got 400 games just on Steam, but I'm not creating an Epic account.

[–]Nustaniel 34 points35 points  (0 children)

<image>

I don't pirate games personally, but yeah, it's not that I don't buy games. Several of those games are the same games I got for "free" with Twitch Prime over on Epic too. I just buy them on Steam instead. I do not want to support Epic in any capacity when they are doing these monopolistic tactics of buying third-party exclusivity to try force adoption over simply provding a better service than what Steam provides.

[–]Valerian_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had EGS, but I removed it, and rebought on steam the 2 games I actually played on EGS

[–]DorrajD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got over 1000 games on steam. I dabbled in piracy a bit way back then, but stopped once I used steam more often. Once EGS started it's exclusive bs, I started pirating again, and it's been easier than ever.

I love Ueda's games, but I'm not using EGS just for this, I'm sorry Ueda. I'll still have fun with it, and I'll buy it if it ever comes to steam, but..

[–]Bulky-Shoulder-8082 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

This moral high ground shit is just shit. Pirate whatever games you want if you’re gonna pirate at all

[–]JohnHue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pirate whatever games you want if you’re gonna pirate at all

That's just it. I don't *want" to pirate games. I'm lucky that I can afford to buy games, and I'm happy to do so in most cases. However, I cannot support EGS's behaviour in the gaming community, so for the few games that are unlimited EGS exclusives that I do want to at least try, well there are not many solutions.

[–]baby_envol 38 points39 points  (23 children)

Epic "ouin ouin Valve is a monopoly" Also Epic "do monopoly things like exclusive games" Customers "no choice 🏴‍☠️"

Please EU do a EU thing , ban exclusive games for a store in the same plateform ( = allow exclusive games for console, like Switch and co, but any store can sell the game on the same plateform)

[–]sharky_- 29 points30 points  (3 children)

[–]Xanyr25 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Please, its epic. In 3 years the game will be free to claim on their platform or released from exclusivity. Meanwhile you can play the.... i duno the entire Yakuza Collection thay you bought for 3€ last decade, or the hoards of emulated games forgotten on that backmost hdd.

[–]TheBugThatsSnug 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Even if its free on EGS, id rather buy it on steam

[–]TheGreatGamer1389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just too lazy to make a dummy account. I ain't using my real email.

[–]DDFoster96 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Poorly named game. I googled it to see what it was about and Google thought I'd misspelled genital warts. Not much difference I suppose.

[–]sur_surly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well that's my second favorite game

[–]Elrothiel1981 22 points23 points  (12 children)

They want to talk Steam Monopoly but paying to get exclusives feels the same way

[–]Verified_Peryak 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Whos is using anti comercial behaviour now tim ? I think this is anti consumer it is time to push a lawsuit

[–]patroln 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Son of a bitch, I didn't even pick up on the no steam icon... well shit can cross that game off the list I guess ffs

[–]Why-so-delirious 15 points16 points  (5 children)

I can't believe Epic is still doing exclusives.

I mean, I get that epic are still a scummy fucking anti-consumer company who would prefer to bribe and steal to try and 'win' customers, but how the fuck have developers not read the writing on the wall? It's no well-kept secret that going epic exclusive is DEATH to a game's sales.

When devs release on both stores, epic does like ONE PERCENT of Steam's sales.

I mean, at this point, you could argue that any publisher taking the epic bribe for exclusivity is failing fiduciary duty because it is GUARANTEED to kneecap sales.

[–]KNOWFEAR1337 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Biggest reason i still havnt bought or played satisfactory, yeah might be on steam now but you need an epic account to play with anyone

[–]Why-so-delirious 0 points1 point  (2 children)

but you need an epic account to play with anyone

Negative. I've finished the game with one of my friends and I don't have an epic account. I think you need an account to play with someone who has the game on epic?

[–]KNOWFEAR1337 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh shit. Maybe they changed it i know when it came to steam all the MP was linked to epic because of how integrated it all was but fair

[–]voyagerfan5761Will the real Tim Swiney please shut up? 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Satisfactory to play SP, but there was no way I'd reward "What's steam?" after pulling their store page. My copy came from a bundle set to 100% charity 😤

Back when Humble still let you do that. Rip.

[–]doublah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did make it so Steamworks is an option for Satisfactory a while ago.

[–]Electlib 33 points34 points  (1 child)

If it ever comes out on Steam, I’d definitely buy it. But for now, I’ll stick with the “Yarr Edition.” It’s a shame, because I really love Ueda’s universe.

[–]Ok_Pirate_2729 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why reward shitty behaviour? You're rewarding them saying they can continue to do it

[–]vomder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's amazing that companies refuse to do their due diligence when it comes to the PC platform and how players buy.

[–]TheRealGnod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll wait for the voices38 crack.

[–]Acceptable-Mention60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remember when Alan Wake 2 sales were absolute garbage cause it was and still is a epic Games store exclusive?

Here we go again.

[–]maxchrome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's never over for the Seven Seas

[–]Purpulear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I immediately said "oh they're just throwing it in the garbage" when I saw it was only on Epic store.

[–]BC360X 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah this game has no chance. Remedy barely made it through with one of the best games that released that year by only selling on epic

[–]Legitimate-Key-8787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean considering it’s still coming out on ps5 and xbox that’s definitely not the case, just in terms of pc sure but the game as a whole for sure not

[–]plumglitchm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"yarr edition" is always the answer when a publisher decides to be like this

[–]0K4M1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh I'm not even mad. As soon as I saw Epic logo and no steam logo, I lost all interest in the game immediately. I simply don't care of what is not on steam.

[–]ForgTheSlothful 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Its funny because people call steam a monopoly. Then we go and see the actual monopoly and just wanna whistle and turn their heads.

[–]JaydenP1211 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I hate this as much as anyone else, but exclusives don’t make a company a monopoly, despite being anti consumer.

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see it as monopolistic practices. It is one thing to sell your own product on your own store, but when you start buying up the rights to sell other's products on your store exclusively, at some point it turns you into a monopoly, as you give customers no other choice. I have no doubt Epic would gladly buy exclusive rights to every single popular franchise out there, locking them to their store exclusively, to try force market adoption. That is what I have a problem with. I would have the same issue with Steam if they were out there buying exclusive publishing rights for Steam.

[–]JaydenP1211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We live in a market with monopolistic competition. Monopolistic actions are allowed as long as it doesn’t result in a company becoming a monopoly. It’s also published by Epic themselves, so they have the rights to do so just as much as Xbox and PlayStation do so.

The reason why you see more anti consumer behavior with Epic is because Steam already has market dominance. Steam doesn’t need to do that.

[–]mauttykoray 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Other people wont use EGS because its inferior to Steam.

I wont use EGS because Epic killed off the original Fortnite in favor of microtransaction riddled battle royale hell.

We are not the same.

[–]Bosnian-WarCriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hate it because they are not even trying to improve their platform. Why the fuck is it in the same state as it launched. Their method is just making shit free that no one plays. And stealing exclusivity deals one week before games release on steam. I still cannot forgive what they did with metro exodus

[–]dookarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What still sticks out to me the most is left up to Tim Sweeney, PC wouldn't even be a platform to game on today. When everyone else that stuck with it was doing the work, he was trying to suck dollars out of Microsoft's anus.

Then he hits it big with Fortnite and decides to try and buy his way in. All the while espousing anti-consumer sentiment every step of the way and throwing tempertantrums and using lawfare to try and tip the scales.

They don't deserve a dime, and they certainly haven't earned "a seat at the table".

[–]Sangcreux -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Want a gold star?

[–]mauttykoray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really.

[–]MattyLePew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]synbios128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Feisty_Calendar_6733 3 points4 points  (2 children)

But it says wishlist now. To my knowledge you can only wishlist games on steam no?

[–]BlazingImp77151 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean other platforms have their own equivalents, no? (I didn't check this specific game on the places I checked, just random games that are already available to buy and play)
- The xbox store has a wishlist feature, though on mobile it's hidden away in the three dots menu.
- The PlayStation store has a little heart icon. I assume that's for a wishlist feature.

I'm not really interested in checking the epic store, but I assume it has its own. Given this seems to be industry standard.

[–]BlazingImp77151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird people downvoted this? Like genuinely, you can wishlist games on platforms other than steam. Its not a term unique to them.

[–]Trajik07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epic will give it away for free eventually.

[–]Nebulys0451 15 points16 points  (16 children)

This isn't new news. Epic funded this game as its publisher, so of course it was going to be EGS exclusive.

[–]denormative 44 points45 points  (6 children)

It's news to me, since I've never heard of this game before. Gotta love the Epic Marketing Blackhole working as usual.

[–]Nebulys0451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's fair. Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh on people not hearing of this game before!

[–]Rogalicus 1 point2 points  (4 children)

[–]SirCB85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ah that's why I never heard of this, I don't care to be informed about stuff that will always remain exclusive to a platform I won't touch if someone put a gun to my head.

[–]KAM1Sense1 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Dam I see why they did it. They get to keep 100% of their IP rights, get up to 100% of the games development cost covered with full creative control and a 50/50 profit share. Thats honestly insane, thanks for sharing.

[–]williamjcm59Epic Account Deleted 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The profit share only kicks in when Epic has fully recouped its costs, though, which for a game like this, might take a long time. Hell, Alan Wake 2 took more than a year to do that, and it was a much more popular game even among console players.

[–]KAM1Sense1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ironically they would cover their cost so much faster if the game was also on steam

[–]randomperson189_Fortnite Killed UT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess that's also gonna be the case for Playdead's Game 3 whenever that comes out

[–]bigbluewreckingcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's funded by them then I'm not surprised that's it's going to be exclusive. I just move and play the other great games that's coming out.

[–]Naruto9903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I just found the sub for me.

[–]Whole-Bedroom-9079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epic!? Oh hell nah man

[–]0AJ0_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not zero. But not what they want until they get passed their stupid UE timed exclusive horseshit.

[–]FatBaldingLoser420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, so that's why I never heard about this game.

[–]Fujikawa1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only hope is that it’s a timed exclusive, otherwise just like Alone in the Dark 2 ill never touch it. Exclusivity on pc is so stupid. Epic needs to crash.

[–]MSter_official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with them having a monopoly on their games, I'll just not buy them :).

[–]ElysiumXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reason for the comment are alle the monopoly lawsuits towards Steam.

I expect I'll never hear of it again.

[–]skiesoverblackvenice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only reason i have an epic account is the get the free games every month. other than that… i get everything on steam or gog

[–]Kadooo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first time i heard of this genitals game

[–]AreYouDoneNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, there's only ever one reason a developer will take an Epic/Tencent bribe to hide their game from the general public.

It's a dud, they know it, and they're recovering their development costs.

[–]NutsackEuphoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing to do is stop talking about the game and let it free fall into epic's marketing blackhole.

[–]LazyEyes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna let epigs beta test the game before they release it on steam.

Why the hell does Tim keep doing that? To be spiteful? He’s so lame

[–]dookarion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spite actually might be part of it. Steam/Valve/Gabe live rent-free in his head. The Apple and Google lawfare showcased how small-time he is. Still love the document where Tim Cook was like "who is this guy?" about Sweeney. Even with his Fortnite billions and numerous acquisitions he can't even get people to use his "store" for free. Their giveaways cause sale spikes on Steam.

For someone with as fragile of an ego as he seems to have the whole thing has been one ego bust after another. He probably can't back off now, it'd take more introspection than his ego is capable of coming to terms with.

Seeing the Epic Games Publishing thing at the start of this is pretty much the touch of death to me.

[–]FCKURMETA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All together: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK EEEEEEEEEPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!

Again: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC! :)

[–]AMDIntel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll pirate it

[–]No-Play2726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck Timmy and fuck Epic.

[–]Rachet20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game would more than not likely exist without funding without Epic so I couldn’t care less. 🤷‍♀️

[–]DkoyOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more than likely its timed. so its fine.

[–]Glittering-Pin-1343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's lame.

[–]IKaffeI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta steam dick riders in here. I can’t imagine dumping for a billion dollar corporation.

[–]Darrian96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if there is enough backlash they will back out, iirc Lords of the fallen 2 was also supposed to be epic exclusive but the trailer at SGF had steam listed as a platform for the game.

[–]DataSurging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are like 10 people on the planet who will buy it on Epic. lmao

[–]Accurate_Fly_7534 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Epic and consoles hahaha

[–]FreeNico2021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

still launching this through steam anyways 👀

[–]Hibulp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you didn't know epic funded this game from the start?

[–]EfficientMinimum5696 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This game is using unreal engine 5. I’m sure Epic games made them a lucrative deal where they didn’t have to pay for engine licensing during development on top of giving them money for being exclusive.

The developer was gone for a while and their budget probably wasn’t huge for this project as it’s a new IP and not another ICO game. Japanese developers are notoriously underfunded.

I bet you if Epic didn’t fund this, this game probably wouldn’t exist. It’s the sad reality of game development now.

[–]Loxnaka -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hate epic and egs but if they’re the publisher I think it’s fair game for them to make it exclusive, valve doesn’t exactly put their games on gog or epic.

[–]Cactus_Fleshlight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna trust the opinion of a right wing propaganda chomo. like Fuck Epic but also Fuck OP for sharing this twits post.

[–]blackholeknight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m still gonna buy this game and support them. Idk why some people think a battle between two billionaire dollar companies is worth getting persuaded by

[–]Izaec -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I know what this sub is about but im just saying clearly epic is the reason the game could be made. So it makes sense like Alan wake 2 that also wouldn’t exist if epic didn’t step in. This isn’t that rare. Bayonetta becoming a Nintendo franchise because platinum needed help and Nintendo stepped up and said “you know what we will foot the bill” or street fighter 5 with ps4.

[–]Nova762 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Imagine caring so much you refuse to by a game you want just because it's on the wrong store.  People are insane.
