I tried nixit lube and condoms — would I use them again?
After I wrote my review on the nixit menstrual cup (which I’ll link at the bottom of this article), the company asked if I would like to try some of their other products.
Because I was so impressed with their cup, I became intrigued and decided to test their lube and condoms. I always promised myself to write honest reviews, so that’s exactly what you’re getting. Let’s dive straight in.
Nixit lube
Nixit lube is for sex and helping insert the nixit menstrual cup. So, without further ado, here are my pros and cons of nixit lube:
Pros
Packing that appeals to women
Something I didn’t notice before using nixit is how lube excludes women.
What do I mean by that?
Well-known brands like Durex lubes are phallic-shaped and aimed at kinky, sexy experiences. They’re unisex, yet somehow still focus on men and making sure that they pleasure women for their ego.
For example, one of Durex’s lubes has a sexy lip-biting image. That’s for the male gaze, not for me. It alludes to how you should look in bed and how you should act. It also hints that when the bloke uses that lube, the woman will experience lip-biting ecstasy. And it’ll be because of you, the man, and your God-given sexual skills.
This isn’t an attack on men. Believe me, I love men! I have an incredible one in my life. And of course, I want to have ecstasy-filled sex. But nixit’s consideration to make the lube packaging for women, and what I want, is refreshing.
Contains skincare ingredients
Before using nixit’s lube, I had a look at the ingredients and was delighted to see it contained skin-loving ingredients like aloe vera and hyaluronic acid.
Not only are these ingredients trending right now, but it highlights something sexual brands neglect — the vagina. An extremely important and sensitive part of intercourse and sexual play. Once again, I realised lube brands often ignore women's anatomy. But not nixit.
Genuinely a non-irritant
I always raise an eyebrow when something claims it’s a “non-irritant.” I think, “You say that, but do you really mean less irritable than other products?”
Well, nixit’s lube was true to its word. I’ve tried one or two other lubes that also deliver non-irritating results, but I was relieved to find that nixit’s lube also made the cut. It didn’t even sting after using it the same day I’d shaved.
Tasteless
Of course, to tell you this, you’ve probably guessed how I know. And it wasn’t from putting the nixit lube onto a teaspoon for a tester. This lube barely had any taste, and I almost forgot me and my partner used it.
Works well with the cup
Usually I just use water to insert a menstrual cup, but there are times I need a helping hand. So, I put nixit’s lube to the test.
I added a small amount onto their cup and it slid in sooo much easier. It was surprising how much it simplified the process (and it's pretty easy anyway). I'll definitely keep the lube in the bathroom while using the nixit menstrual cup.
Cons
Water-based
I struggle with water-based lube because I find it doesn’t work as well during sex. Unfortunately, I experienced the same with nixit’s lube, but if they released a silicone-based one, I’d be eager to try it.
Tacky texture and lacking slip
Another downfall of water-based lube is the tacky texture it creates. I didn’t love the feel of nixit’s lube and the friction slowed down sex at points.
Must constantly reapply
I found the nixit lube combined with their condoms didn’t work well. The lube seemed to evaporate after a minute, and it definitely affected the flow of intimacy. Me and my partner had to stop multiple times, so I wonder if the lube works better without condoms.
Overall thoughts on the nixit lube
I’ll definitely continue using the nixit lube for the menstrual cup. It makes insertion so simple and you can tell a single bottle will last a really long time.
However, I wouldn’t use it for sex again. I personally prefer silicone-based lubes, as they have more slip and last longer without reapplying.
Nixit condoms
Alright, let’s get to the star of the show and that is *drum roll* nixit condoms. I’m excited to talk about this one, so let’s dive in.
Pros
Packing that appeals to women
The first thing that struck me was how feminine the condom packaging was. And I’ll admit, it shocked me. Not until now did I realise how masculine condoms are.
Think about SKYN condoms with their suave black and gold colours. Or Durex, which focuses on mutual climaxing. Even though, let’s face it, men have a far easier time climaxing than women. So, when I opened the box of nixit condoms, like a slap in the face, I realised how much sex is still catering to men.
I reasoned with myself. Condoms are for men, right? I use them so I don’t get pregnant and for STI protection. But what if condoms could be more? What if they could bring, instead of take away, from my pleasure?

It’s such a simple realisation. Yet, there I was, turning over the pink packaging in my hand and feeling, dare I say, emotional over a condom. Condoms are for women too, but they never ever feel that way. Until nixit.
Silicone-coated
Yay! My favourite type of lube is silicone-based because it performs sooo much better than water-based. And man did nixit deliver. Their condoms are smooth to use and the slip lasts longer, especially when used alongside a silicone-based lube.
You can still feel
Everyone knows that using a condom can reduce the sensations of sex, but these condoms are by far the best I have ever tried. Honestly, I didn't think I could enjoy sex so much with a condom, but nixit proved me wrong. If you’re struggling with feel using condoms, give these a go.
No rolling up or having to readjust
A struggle I’ve often found with condoms (particularly when I’m taking the lead) is that they roll up and shift. This causes me and partner to pause and adjust. Which is fine occasionally, but when it happens multiple times, you feel like ripping it off and throwing the whole thing away (the condom, not the penis).
I’ve used nixit condoms multiple times now and they’ve stayed in place. One less thing to think about during sex and one more thing that adds to the experience.
Awesome for sensitive souls
I always thought I was just sensitive to lube, but after using nixit I realise it's condoms, too. Maybe it’s the friction, coating, or material. But after sex using condoms, I would always have a slight stinging. It annoys me because I know my boyfriend can have sex and get away scot-free. Not that it’s his fault, but it’s frustrating none the less.
So, there I was, going about my day after having sex using nixit condoms, and it hit me. No irritation, no stinging, and no mild friction burns.
Overall thoughts on nixit condoms
Incredible experience, would come again.
Honestly, me and boyfriend both agree that these are the best condoms by far. I can’t see myself using another brand from now on.
What’s the future of nixit?
After reviewing three of nixit’s products, I have some thoughts on what I love about them and what I’d like to see from them in the future.
What I love about nixit
Excellent packaging and marketing
I think a lot of companies believe that woman want glitter and butterflies all the time. Spoiler — we don’t. Sometimes, simple, no fuss, yet feminine packaging is the best.
Embraces feminity (without embarrassment)
There’s been some back and forth on feminism the past few years. Society has conditioned us to believe that you have to be a bra-burning, man-hating, rage-fuelled woman to call yourself a feminist. And, apparently, if you like high heels and make-up, you don’t fit the feminist terms and conditions.
In a nutshell, women are taught that you can’t embrace feminity and be a feminist.
Nixit is a company clearly breaking this myth. Everything from its packaging to its messaging embraces female empowerment without shoving it down your throat. They don’t need to convince you they empower women, they just…do.
Take, for example, the text on their condom packaging. It mentions the product is ideal for a committed relationship or if you just want to be prepared. No subtle slut-shaming or putting your needs on the back-burner. Its subliminal messaging is to enhance women’s sexuality without the taboo.
They genuinely care about women
Nixit products feel like they were designed from the heart, for a population who has periods and *shock* like sex! That’s what makes the brand different and (dare I say) special.
What do I want to see?
An improved lube for sexual wellness
I’d love to see a lube that works for sex, not just the menstrual cup, specifically a silicone-based formula.
Down-to-earth science and research about women’s bodies
It would be cool to see science-based articles about how women’s bodies work and why we feel a certain way. For example, the hormonal reason you’re snappy during your period. It would also be a great platform to showcase recent research on women’s bodies.
An expanded blog
I love reading about a company I’m interested in. Nixit has a wonderful series going, called Bleed & Tell, which I love, but it’s a bit hidden away.
I’d also enjoy articles that help me connect to the human side of being a woman. Like, “It’s okay to eat chocolate during your period, here’s why,” and “Can’t cum? Why sexual anxiety is affecting your intimacy.” You know, stuff that real women deal with but are afraid to ask.
Get political!
Nixit is a loud and proud company and I want to see that transitioning from their products into the real world.
Call out companies that are bullshitting women, highlight the lack of research on women’s autonomy and equally put a spotlight on new studies.
Looking into period poverty is another good one, but make it hit home. Share how period poverty has affected people you know, so women can emotionally connect.
