Chapter 1: The Pretty Cure of Hope is Bunbee!?

Chapter Text

Hello, the name’s Bunbee! I’m 14 years old and a second year attending Cing Lumiere. Which is some fancy middle school with these fancy purple uniforms, school work that’s too hard and clubs that have way too high standards. I’m on my way to the bus stop now so I don't have time to chat.

I run through the city, taking all the shortcuts I know when suddenly I spot a small yellow bug flying around with some sort of magical aura. I stare in awe as it swiftly flies into an alleyway. I curiously follow it, wanting to know what kind of bug it is. I chase after it until I crash face first into a wall. “Ow…” I rub my head as the bug flies onto my finger revealing itself as a bee! I hold perfectly still and watch it crawl all over my hand, trying not to squirm or spook it in any way. It doesn't sting me and I manage to get a better look at it, it honestly doesn't look like a real bee. It glows pink with magic and seems so peaceful where it rests.

“Wow, you’re so calm,” a man appears before me with pale skin, green hair and creepy looking eyes. He walks over to me, tipping his green hat to me and holding a cane in his other hand. The bee flies onto his hat and rests there as he stands up and holds the bee up to his face. "I think he likes you," he says as the bee crawls off of the hat and onto his hand, he puts his hat back on. Who is this old man? He's a bit creepy... The bee flies away and he chases after it before I can even think of what to say. I stand there looking where he ran off in confusion as I try to think of what to do next. I hear the city clock tower chime and realize I’m going to be late! I start running at top speed towards my destination, nearly tripping several times before I reach the bus stop.

I rush towards the bus stop where my best friend Scorp is waiting for me. Scorp is also a second year and he’s the same age as me. He’s probably the strongest kid in school, he’s in almost every sports team! And loves to show off his strength! He’s so cool!! And we’ve been friends since childhood, we have a special bond that can never be broken! Scorp spots me. “Hurry Bunbee! If you're late again I'll kill you!" He scolds me as he follows the crowd into the bus with all the kids in matching uniforms to us. I keep running but still manage to miss the bus by two seconds, it pulls away and I fall over onto my face as I stop so suddenly.

“Ah! I’m going to be in so much trouble!” I yell at myself while standing up and booking it up the hill after the bus. “Come on, come on, don't be late!”

I finally make it to school and Scorp is already waiting with a serious expression. "Finally," he says as he hands me a sports towel from his bag to wipe my sweat with. I follow him down the pathway towards the entrance. A group of students gasp and surround someone. In the center of the crowd is the most well known student in our entire school, she’s a lot taller than most students, she has wavy purple hair, green eyes that are covered by her glasses. Everyone knows this kid as student council president Anacondy aka the queen of Lumiere middle school.

“Good morning Anacondy-sama!” The crowd of underclassmen cheer as the queen walks through them with little emotion on her face. It’s kind of odd, despite being popular in school and getting 100% in everything she does in school she is never seen smiling. I wonder if there’s a reason behind that?

“Has everyone finished their homework?” she asks the crowd. Many classmates cheer and say yes except for one brave soul that said no. Everyone goes silent and turns to see who this kid is as Anacondy slowly turns to him. “Have you finished your homework?”

“No…” the kid says again and begins to back away as Anacondy approaches him.

Anacondy glares at him. “Is it due today?”

“Y-yes…” the kid whimpers as Anacondy towers over him.

“Then what are you doing loitering out here?” Anacondy says.

"I-"

"Hurry up and finish it!"

“Yes ma’am...” the kid looks down.

“Good morning Anacondy,” a voice interrupts Anacondy and she surprisingly calms down, she turns to her childhood friend. “You should really be more patient with them. They’re not you.”

“Good morning Mucardia,” Anacondy says and begins to walk towards the building with him. “Have you finished your homework?”

“Of course,” Says her friend, smiling as the duo walks away. This is Mucardia, he has long white hair and red eyes, he's far from the best student here but he at least finishes his homework and never gets scolded by Anacondy. I honestly don't know much about him. I don't even think Mucardia is his real name, it might be a nickname.

"She's as strict as ever," Scorp says in reaction to Anacondy.

"Yeah..." I agree, she's always that way though. Worse then any teacher...

"Let's be glad we're not on her bad side," Scorp says. The school bell rings. "Let's hurry!" he runs off towards class and I follow.

Later after a long half a day of school I finally make it to lunch! I walk through the courtyard towards the fancy school cafe. I'm not really paying attention as I- Suddenly I fall to the ground, I stand up quickly and turn to the kid who tripped me. He's a first year, I can tell by the yellow mark on his uniform. He towers over me with perfectly combed hair and smug smile, he chuckles and I instantly notice the uncanny fact that no matter what he does his eyes always stay closed.

"What did you do that for!?" I ask, enraged by this annoying brat.

"I'm terribly sorry, it was an accident," he sounds genuine enough. "Please forgive me," he bows apologetically despite his tone not matching the gesture.

"You better be sorry!" I yell.

"I am deeply sorry," he keeps his head bowed, his tone doesn't have much emotion and he always sounds like he's scheming something. Untrustworthy... "Do you forgive me?" he holds out his hand. "I'm new to this school and didn't mean any harm."

"I guess I can forgive you..." I take his hand and instantly feel an electric shock move through my arm and zap my body before I fall back and glare as he covers his smirk with his hand and also reveals the hand buzzer in his other hand. "YOU TRICKED ME!!" I yell angrily.

"Did I? My apologies," his annoying laugh proves he's not actually sorry.

"YOU LITTLE!-"

"That's enough games for now," he straightens his collar and pulls out a book of some sort, he reads it as he begins to walk away.

"Wait!" I say and he turns to me, opening his eyes slightly revealing his yellow eyes. "What's your name?"

"Does it matter?-"

"I wanna know the name of such a pest," I say and he closes his eyes and smirks.

"It'd be an honor to be known by you senpai," he says, closing his book and fully turning to me. "I am Kawarino," he bows politely as he introduces himself. "May I have the name of you now?"

"It's Bunbee," I say, he offers to shake my hand again but I reject and put my hands in my pocket.

Kawarino smiles. "Smart move."

"It was almost nice to meet you," I say, still a bit upset by his pranks.

"It was a pleasure," he opens his book again and reads it as he walks away. I just stand there for a moment as he leaves, suddenly the old man from this morning rushes by, running after the magic bee from earlier. He looks suspicious... Especially on school grounds... The old man runs towards the library and I reluctantly chase after him. I enter the library.

"ANYONE IN HERE!?" I yell, looking for wherever the man disappeared.

"Library voices please," says Mucardia who sits at the front desk, reading a book with a picture of a cockroach on it's cover.

"Do you work here?" I ask.

"Yeah, I like to help out," he says.

"Anyways," I say and slam my hands on the desk in front of him as I ask. "Have you seen a man come in here?"

"No... There's no one else here," he says, looking curious.

"Mucardia!" Anacondy enters. "Do you need any help with your homework?- Oh hello Bunbee."

"You know my name?" I ask, a bit nervous by her staring at me with a serious expression.

"As student council president I find it is important to know the names of all other students," Anacondy says. "Including you."

"Oh, that makes sense," I say and chuckle. "Hey Anacondy, is there anyone in here besides us three?"

"No, no one else is in here," she says firmly.

"But I just saw a man run in here chasing a bee and-"

"No one else is here."

"There has to be! I saw him with my own eyes!" I argue.

"But we haven't and if he came in we would've surely seen him too," she makes a good point.

"True..."

"Perhaps you were just seeing things," she says. "Do you need to see the nurse?

"No-" the bell ringing interrupts me.

"Then hurry back to class," she demands.

"But I have to find that man!" I run off to find the man.

"Bunbee!-" she yells but Mucardia stops her.

"Library voices," he says.

"Of course, sorry," she says and sits down next to him. I keep searching until I spot the man looking through books, he picks up a weird book in a wooden case decorated with five animals carved into it. On the left side of the case there is a scorpion, on the right side there is a chameleon, on the back there is a snake and a centipede and on the front of the case is a huge bee. It's an odd choice of animals, mostly bugs. The man looks it over curiously as the magic bee lands on the top of it.

"This is the one," he whispers to himself.

"What a cool box!" I say, admiring the wood case. He looks startled and hides it behind himself.

"Hello again," he says. That's suspicious... Why is he hiding it? Is he stealing it?

"Can I see it up close?" I ask, slowly approaching him to see what he'll do if I reach out and grab the box. He pulls it away from me and I tighten my grip as I tug it towards me.

"What are you doing in a middle school library? And what are you doing to this book?"

"None of your business!"

"I think it is!"

"It's not! Now give it!" he tries to pull it away and I pull as hard as I can before suddenly we smash into a bookshelf and he disappears into a cloud of smoke, in his place appears a praying mantis that almost looks like a stuffed toy. I hold the box and look at the strange creature.

"What the heck happened to you!?" I panic and pick him up. "Your eyes are so big!! Look at your arms! And your nose! Well there isn't a nose! You look like an alien!!! You're kind of cute-"

"Oh shut up~giri!" he says, squirming out of my grasp and flying over to pick up the box.

"Wait, what even are you?" I ask.

"I'm-"

"Finally found you!" A strange man with short brown hair and blue eyes appears.

"Oh no~giri..." the mantis hovers beside me with the book in his arms. "This is all your fault~giri!"

"It's not-" suddenly the strange brown haired man morphs into a hideous monster, his legs and arms change to be more animal like, he grows bright yellow fur and a white tuft of fur comes from his neck matching the tail that grows behind him. His ears turn pointy and then grow as his face shifts into a fox-like muzzle and small dog like eyes. A salmon colored tuft of fur grows from his head and he has finished his transformation into a humanoid fox thing with long claws replacing his hands. My jaw drops as I stare in shock at the creature in front of me, creepier then the mantis. "WHAT THE HECK!?" I yell and back away.

"Now be a good little boy and hand over the Dream Collet," the beast says, ignoring me and approaching the mantis that hugs the book. "Give it!" he forces the box from the mantis's arms and slaps the poor thing into the ground.

"GIVE IT BACK THIS INSTANT~GIRI!!!" the mantis cries. "I need it to save my home! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TAKE IT~GIRI!!!!"

"You don't need this," the beast forces the box open and takes out some weird pink device with a bee painted around the small screen on top of it. What do I do? That thing seems important to this Giri mantis thing. And what's this about his home? It's confusing... But I want to help him... I don't know why I suddenly want to, I should just leave now and run away where I'm safe and eat the lunch I forgot to eat during class... I want to run away and forget all of this but something in me also wants to stay and protect that mantis thing I just met. This is so dumb! Suddenly as I watch the weird fox creature beat up the small mantis thing the magic bee from this morning flies in and lands on my wrist, it stares me in the eyes as I feel it's magic STING ME- It stung me!!! As it stung me I felt it's magic flow inside me as it morphs into some sort of watch that wraps around my wrist, I scream out of shock from being stung and fling my arm around, trying to get the strange watch off of me. It does not budge, I cannot remove it. The watch has a touch screen that lights up, glowing in a pink color. It feels calming suddenly, I look at it curiously as it glows, I feel like it wants to help me. It wants to help me, help Giri or whatever his name is. I stand up tall and suddenly feel brave as I feel the words coming from my mouth beyond my control.

"Pretty Cure!" Is the first thing I say. What is a Pretty Cure? What does that even mean? I move my arm in front of me and spin it in a large circle as magic bees made of light come from it and flutter around me, I'm a bit scared of them but don't show this at all as I pose. As I did this I said the word. "Metamorphosis!" Metamorphosis? Like a butterfly? I spread my arms and the bees created from the watch fly inside me and I feel my body flow with power as my outfit glows and begins to change first a pink top with ruffled sleeves appears with a green bee shaped gem that appears in the center and sprouts ribbon that creates a pink and yellow trimmed bow. I move my arms in front of my torso as matching gloves that reach my elbows and expose my fingers appear. A skirt that matches the top then appears and below it yellow leggings grow to cover my legs, on my feet some highly uncomfortable high heel shoes appear that match the pink of my outfit. On my back appears a cape that resembles bee wings as my hair slightly grows and twists into a small pony tail that resembles a bee stinger. The main colors of my new outfit are pink and light yellow. "The great power of hope, Cure Bee!" I say and pose to finish my transformation. "HUH!?" I finally take a good look at my outfit. A skirt? Are you kidding? Is this a dream or something? And what even was that I just said?

"No way!" The mantis stares in awe. "You became a Precure~giri!"

"A what now?" I say, confused.

"Cure Bee?" the fox thing says, taking out a small yellow ball with eyes. "My friend should be able to deal with you," he throws the ball at a painting of a princess and it becomes a huge monster. I instantly scream as it swings a giant umbrella at me, I manage to dodge and watch the monster carefully.

"Don't run away! You're a Precure~giri!" the mantis thing says. "Fight it! You can do it~giri!"

Before I have time to react the monster punches the ground in front of me as I jump high above it, higher than any normal kid could jump. I land a kick on the monster, sending it crashing through several bookshelves. "Wow," I stare in awe at my incredible strength as I slowly float to the ground.

"Go Cure Bee!" the mantis thing cheers me on. I charge the monster and repeatedly attack it with punches and occasional kicks as I attempt to knock it out. My speed is incredible and I feel my cape move like wings as I dash towards it.

"HOSHINA!" The monster eventually falls to the ground. I stand above it and glare as my watch glows again.

"Purify it now~giri!"

"What, how?" I ask.

"You can do this~giri!"

"Okay..." I look at my watch and pose as it glows. I feel my hair and cape flow behind me as I begin to speak. "The great potential of a young kid's dream..." I spin around and magic bees come from my watch all swarming and ready to attack. "Take this! Pretty Cure Buzy Bee Attack!" I yell and the bees fly towards the monster with their stingers ready, as each bee lands on the monster it begins to slowly fade away.

"Hoshina..." the monster completely fades away when the bees are done.

"You did it~giri!" the mantis flies over and hugs me but I push him away and grab him.

"You have a lot of explaining to do!" I yell.

"Yeah, yeah we'll get to that~giri," the mantis says. I return to my normal form and he hides behind me as Anacondy and Mucardia rush in.

"Did you hear all that noise?" Anacondy asks.

"Uh, no..." I say.

"Really?" she approaches me. "What happened here?" she looks at a bunch of books that are on the floor.

"Nothing..."

"Did you do this?" she glares at me.

"No!"

"Calm down Anacondy," Mucardia says.

"Clean up this mess and return to class," she says, straightening her glasses and leaving with Mucardia.

"Yes ma'am..." I say, as soon as I'm sure they're gone I turn to the mantis who is picking up the device that was in the box. I pick him up and he begins to explain as I walk toward class. He introduces himself as Girinma, a fairy trying to save his home with the Dream Collet. He also told me that there will be four other Precures that I will have to assemble to stop the villains. This is a lot to take in... And highly confusing but I guess that means my adventure is far from over.
