Antonio S. Jardim

Antonio S. Jardim, age 59, passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Sept. 22, 2007.

Mr. Jardim was the husband of 36 years of Donna M. (Wright) Jardim.

He was the son of the late Antonio Jardim and Mary Jardim. Mr. Jardim was born and raised in Taunton. He attended Taunton High School and later graduated from New England College in Henniker, N.H., with a bachelor’s in elementary education.

He was one of the first bilingual teachers ever to be employed by the Taunton school system, where he taught for 35 years. He began his teaching career at the School Street School under the tutelage of Ida Baptista, and later taught in various schools throughout the city of Taunton. He spent the final years of his career at the James L. Mulcahey Middle School, before retiring in 2006.

He was a member of the P.A.C.C. (Portuguese-American Civic Club) and served for many years as the Club’s secretary. He was also an active member of the Prince Henry Society and served as chairman of the scholarship committee. Mr. Jardim was a parishioner of Saint Paul’s Parish, and a member of the YMCA. He’ll forever be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and genuine concern for everyone he came in contact with throughout his life.

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Jardim is survived by a son, Anthony J. Jardim and his wife.

The funeral was held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway St., Mary’s Square, on Sept. 27 and was followed by a funeral Mass at St. Paul Church. The burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
