Really? I'd probably put Plundered My Soul in the top 10-20 best Stones songs ever.

 

I know a lot of fans would. It never clicked with me for some reason.

 

I just bought the 2-lp vinyl set and have no doubt this is going to become a turntable favourite. Four sides of optimum Stones. Better still it includes some of their best late period songs like 'Don't Stop' and 'Doom and Gloom'. Sure I would have liked a few others like 'Highwire' and 'Anybody Seen My Baby' but they can be found elsewhere. Now all we need is the release of their late period albums individually on vinyl. And maybe a new album?

 

Have you actually had a chance to listen to it yet? If so, how's the sound?

 

Yes, those four songs you named, along with "Shattered" should have been on HONK...except for the GRRR! 80-track Box, "She's So Cold" and "Shattered" continues to be left off their comps, which is getting ridiculous...those are fantastic songs and two of my favorites. It's especially disappointing because disc 3 could have housed those two songs and other studio songs as well, but they chose to release recent live material instead.

 

Shattered was included on Sucking In The Seventies and Forty Licks. Hang Fire has not been included on any of their compilations since Rewind.

 

Long story short, as long as they continue to give no more than 3-LP's worth of space to the 1971-present era, there are going to continue to be glaring omissions. You can't effectively cover the last nearly 50 years of their career in that short of a space.

It's the reason I make iPod mixes. But CD-R's and iPod rips are not generally going to sound as good as quality vinyl. Not to my ears, anyway. So, I do wish they would release a more comprehensive set on LP. Also, I wouldn't mind getting a good hi-rez set as well. Aside from the ABKCO SACD's and the Virgin remasters, most of their releases during the CD era have been kind of iffy in regards to SQ.

 

I can't listen to lps at work or in the car. The Japanese SHM-CDs are good for the most part.

 

Same. Which, like I said before, is why I make iPod mixes. But when I can get the luxury of good sound, I want it as good as it gets.

 

Do they have Japanese SHM-CD's for the last several? Everything that wasn't part of the Virgin remasters?

 

I believe they do but I don't have any of them and I am not sure what the more recent ones sound like. I have some of the SHM-CDS for their seventies era albums and Tattoo You. The SHM-CD for It's Only Rock 'N' Roll has the great speed corrected slower version of Fingerprint File on it.

 

My main listening source for most of these songs until now was the 'Jump Back' cd. This latest vinyl album is a whole new listening experience. Instrumentation is in high relief. Drums maybe too much so. But the sound is good. Classic hooks with added punch.

I don't recall if the most recent reissues had the speed corrected version or not. Previously, the speed corrected version was only available on bootlegs. I don't know the catalog number and I would have to dig to find it. I burned the speed corrected version to one of my compilation cdrs.

From Wikipedia - A 2011 Japanese SHM-SACDreissue of the album features a speed-corrected version of the song, running about a half-minute longer than on other releases.

I have the TWFNO CBS timed to 6:39, the Virgin at 6:38, and the 2013 Japanese Version at 6:48.

The Virgin "Fingerprint File" is 6:34 and the 2013 Japanese disc is 7:01.

 

I have the slower correct "Twfn" speed on boots only so no interest or need to buy another official cd with the sped up much shorter version.

 

"Time Waits for No One" is slower on the bootlegged takes? I thought the only usual difference in the raw takes was the complete unfaded ending, which the Japanese DSD remaster preserves

 

Polydor put out SHM-CDs for Voodoo Lounge, Bridges and Bigger Bang but they're not DSD remastered like the earlier albums, they are just the squashed 2009 Universal remasters in a different disc format/packaging (just like Honk)
