I like Out of Control but I think the album (Honk) ends on a whimper with Streets and Tears. Just my opinion.

 

Yeah. And I like the other selections from Bridges to Babylon and A Bigger Bang. But I would have subbed in "Sparks Will Fly" and "She Saw Me Coming," to make the set go out kicking.

By and large, though, these are quibbles. Overall, this set is a pretty great career overview.

 

Looking forward to grabbing the live "She's a Rainbow" from this set tomorrow on the RSD one-sided 7"

Why my all time favorite group apparently does not have the interest to swing a deal with someone where the obligatory comps are pumped out every couple of years and post-tour live albums roll off the line while a parallel FTD styled archival release label that focuses not just on concerts but outtakes produced in limited runs escapes me.......

 

And I get it that the archives won’t back earlier than ‘71.......

I would just like to see things like Criss Cross Man (Mind) come out officially!

 

"Criss Cross" is complete and ready to go as I am sure enough other tracks from mid-70s to warrant release w/out much work (e.g., "Drift Away"). I believe it will happen eventually.

No, "Harlem Shuffle" is on the comp and that's a cover.

 

One Hit (To The Body) isn't a cover.

However, they always include Harlem Shuffle on these compilations and never include their charting covers of Ain't Too Proud To Beg or Going To A Go-Go.

 

The post I responded to asked if "One Hit (to the Body)" isn't customarily included on Rolling Stones comps because it includes a Ronnie Wood co-writing credit.

My response was that "Harlem Shuffle" is included on HONK and it's a cover song with no songwriting royalties, with the implication that monopolizing royalties must not be the reason "One Hit (to the Body)" is not anthologized.

 

However, they could also include One Hit (To The Body) instead of another Jagger/Richards song rather than Harlem Shuffle but they don't.

It may also be easier and/or cheaper for them to license Harlem Shuffle than Ain't Too Proud To Beg or Going To A Go-Go. Harlem Shuffle is more obscure.

 

Why oh why....

 

I just got an e-mail from Spotify telling me that, as “one of the Stones’ biggest fans” on Spotify, I’ve been given the opportunity to purchase an “exclusive translucent red vinyl” pressing of Honk from Spotify. Thanks, but no thanks.

 

I can't justify this. In fact, I didn't acquire 40 Licks or Grrr either. The live disc isn't enough, particularly because nearly a 1/3 of its short tracklisting showcases special guests.

 

I doubt it has anything to do with licensing or who wrote it. The fact is "Harlem Shuffle" was a bigger hit.

It still doesn't explain why some of those tracks were not included even on the Super Deluxe version of GRRR!. They had plenty of room on that and they omitted Hang Fire (#20 U.S.) as well, instead they included Neighbours for example.

 

You're right. All I'm saying is "Harlem Shuffle" is always included due to it hitting #5. It was a big hit. Maybe Mick and Keith are not too fond of the other tracks and don't want them representing the Stones on hits compilations and anthologies. Those two likely make the final decisions on the track listings, I would think. The Singles 1971–2006 did take care of all the singles from that era and was a nice sequel to the ABKCO singles box.

 

I guess they must dislike Hang Fire as well as it has not been included on a compilation that I am aware of since Rewind.
