I just find it funny that the with the past two comps they found it necessary to add new tracks, but with this one they were just like "f iiiiiiiiittttt"

This release will probably be "Edited and Compressed, Volume 4". After "Rewind", every comp has had more and more edited versions.

Just who is this comp for??? All the old timer fans with deep wallets will already have all the old albums on vinyl, and all the millennial kids with deep wallets will have all the old (and 180 gram reissue) albums on vinyl.

It's colored vinyl, though! Something to flip later, right?

I'd like to see a DVD/Blu-Ray video collection from The Stones.
Heck, maybe they can follow the Apple model for 1+ and attach it to another compilation in the future.

Not everyone has 'deep wallets'. There are lots of people who won't, or can't, fork out $500 for the big vinyl box of post-1971 material. Since the Stones management have stubbornly refused to make this material available to ordinary folks with ordinary wallets, I suppose this is the next best thing, a compilation of the best songs from the vinyl box. Besides, it's a killer track list.

Is there really much money to be made in this? It's 2019... album sales are really bad, The Stones literally have 4 or 5 really solid compilations (Grrrrr, Forty Licks, The Singles Collection, Hot Rocks/More Hot Rocks, Jump Back, etc...) to suffice what most people would want, and sales for compilations are really poor nowadays given streaming, plus the availability of so many other Stones collections on the market.

Just give us a new album

I don't understand why they didn't break this stuff up after so many months. I think of the Springsteen and Bowie deluxe vinyl boxes that ended up getting split up (save "exclusive" material to entice the real diehards to buy the sets) after so many months.

The post Steel Wheels stuff is still a hole in my collection. Thinking about the CDN$100 deluxe Honk.

Tom Petty too. I remain hopeful that the Stones albums will eventually be made available individually. Surely they must now be at a point when far more copies of individual albums would sell than a few more box sets. I would immediately go and pick up Goats Head Soup and Bridges to Babylon and probably a couple of others.

As was the case with the blues album from two years ago, I was again given the inside scoop:

Mick: What should we do for this tour? Should we think about putting out some of our new music?
Keith: You mean, a single, like a teaser for the new album?
Mick: Yeah. Or it could even be an EP with four of the tracks we’ve finished so far. The fans would like new music.
Keith: Or, we could get back in the studio for a couple days and do more blues tunes? The first one was great.
Mick: Yeah that sounds cool too . . . What do you think, Dave?
Dave (Record company executive): Those are wonderful ideas, guys. I LOVE em.
    Mick: Really? [smiles, looks doubtful]
Dave: Absolutely. But, if I may, look at this [turns off lights, turns on a projector; image flashes on screen]. HONK! What do you think?
    Mick: what is . . . that?
Dave: It's a new greatest hits collection! Your biggest hits, all collected on one 2CD or 3LP set. And it's "Honk" because . . . . well, I'm not sure what that means, but hey, who cares? It's the Rolling Stones, right?! We release it the day you start the tour; it gets tons of free publicity!
Keith: I don't know. Haven't we put out a bunch of these?
    Mick: Yeah, it seems . . .
Dave: WORK with me, guys. All those people going to your show - they want the hits! But, as Keith so astutely pointed out, there are so many "best-of" sets out there, it's confusing for the consumer. So . . . HONK! Problem solved!
    Mick: Yeah, but . .
Dave: And, get this, Tom in our Marketing Department said that we can release "deluxe" versions by adding a disc of live tracks! He says people will buy the deluxe just to get the live stuff. We can even release the deluxe LP on multi-colored vinyl. Tom in Marketing said that may fans will buy multiple formats. Some will even buy the colored vinyl when they don't have a turntable!
Mick: Well, is it just about record sales?
Dave: You're right, Mick, it's not just about record sales! [turns on projector again]. Look at these mock ups, guys - T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, lithographs - the whole works, and all with the new HONK design! I was talking to Tom, and . . .
    Mick: Tom?
Dave: The Marketing guy. Anyway, Tom said that his research shows that most fans already have a tongue t-shirt. But, this one is bold, it's bad, it's HONK! Everyone's going to want one!
    Mick: Yeah, but . . .
Keith: I'm tired of this. **** it, you guys decide. Just consider our suggestions, alright?
Dave: Understood. Hey, I love your ideas, so I'll take them to the team and we'll make the decision. As always, it's been a pleasure, guys. Say hi to Ron and . . . to Ron and . . . .
    Mick: Charlie.
    Dave: Right! Charlie!

Is it possibly called HONK to remind us of "Honky Tonk Women", a song that isn't on the set?

The only incentive to buy this set was if there were pre-1971 tracks remixed or mixed in stereo for the first time. But that ain't the case.

    The real question is...

DO WE NEED ANOTHER "BEST OF" from The Rolling Stones?

Personally... I'll say.. NO, thank you.

A few days ago, I orderd

This weekend I'll hear, listen, read, touch it.

I think.... it's a better way, to spend money, instead of an umpteenth Best Off...

How else do you expect them to release a couple new songs when they record them every few years if not a 3 CD box set?

There might be a reason to look forward to this new comp though...won't it be newly remastered?

The 2009 remasters were very compressed, although I thought GRRR! sounded a little better? HONK is coming out on Polydor/Interscope, so it that under UMe again?
