Chapter 1 : Graduation

Diploma in hand, I enter the clubroom. The ceremony was so long, the speeches were so boring, but at last it was over. I was finally able to go back to my preferred form !

I launch my favorite app, the Mahou Shoujo App, and then proceed with the password.

“Pirikara Piriri Magical Karii.”

A familiar light wraps around my body. It feels comfortable. I associate it with what’s usually the best part of the day.

Opening my eyes, I see my body, in my magical girl outfit. I giggle, being like this always lifts up my mood.

I grab my girl uniform from my bag, change swiftly, pick up the diploma I left on the table, and exit the clubroom.

I check my phone and see a message pop up on it. It’s from the Magical Girl Club group chat. Apparently, Teruto–senpai and the 1st and 2nd years were waiting for us 3rd years at a café nearby to celebrate our graduation.

Those 3 years were really fun. Teruto–senpai might have graduated last year, so it wasn’t the same, but I was able to be the president of the MSB ! I tried my best to transmit my knowledge and enjoyment of being a girl to the new guy, but for some reason he wasn’t as much into it. I tried my best, though; I even proposed a guy’s outing to the women’s public bath… I guess I won’t have the opportunity to do it now…

“Is something wrong, Minami–kun ? You seem a bit down.” Karin asked. I just realized she was right next to me as I reached the front gate.

“Nothing, I just realized that high school is over. I knew it was gonna come, but it only hit me just now…” I said.

“Well, there’s always fun stuff after ! University will be our next big step.” she answered.

“Yeah, yeah… I will really miss the club though. I wasn’t able to teach the other guy nearly as much stuff about being a girl as I would have liked, I don’t know, I feel like he doesn’t have the same spark as I did the first time.”

“Always you and your eccentric hobbies, can’t you understand that everyone might not like it as much as you do ?” Asaba looked like he had just appeared right next to me.

“You took the occasion when I proposed it to you though.” I answered smugly.

“It—it was different !” He looked like he was about to explode.

“What are you two talking about behind my back ?” Karin said. She looked kind of annoyed that we weren’t including her in our discussion.

“NOTHING !” both of us said in unison.

“Pssssst. If you want to come with us to the after–party, transform real quick on the way, I’ll send you the address.” I whispered to him. He then proceeded to leave on his own.

“Minami–kun, let’s hurry a bit, everyone is waiting for us.” She seems impatient.

“Aren’t we waiting for Yui ?”

“She’s a bit late, apparently Ren hasn’t been able to let her go after the ceremony.”

“Oh” I won't try to pick her up, Ren still scares me.

We walked for about 5 minutes, then we spotted the café. While entering, we noticed Teruto–senpai and our kouhais at a table at the back. We both got closer, pulling out my hand to say hi.

“Hey everyone” the dark–haired girl started.

“Hey Teruto–senpai, long time no see ! How is it going ?” I answered.

Karin and I just sat at the table with them.

“Just fine, though studies are eating a lot of my anime–viewing time sadly, to not lose it, I’ve lost quite a bit of time to sleep…”

Sometimes, her priorities truly baffle me, but I’m obligated to admire her commitment as a fellow magical girl fan.

Shortly after, Yui arrived, with by her side the Maniacal Girl.

“Oh, I see that Miss Demon–lord decided to stop by at our magical girl party ?” I smugly said.

“I just happened to see Yui while passing close by, she invited me to come.” Her lie was visible from a mile away.

They then both sat with us at the table.

“So, how has your year as a president worked out for you ? Was it fun ?” Teruto–senpai asked.

“It was a ton of fun, but I think that Makoto…” I took a look at the 2nd year student that sat right next to her “…Isn’t fully grasping the appeal of transforming.”

“I guess not everyone has as much passion in it as you do…” Teruto–senpai chuckled.

“I don’t get it, shouldn’t it be the dream for every guy ?”

Her face looked a bit more concerned, “I don’t think so.” she said, then continued, “Speaking of which, I’ll be disabling the Magical Girl App for all the former 3rd year students, you’ll also have to find a new president among the second years.”

“WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT ???? DISABLING THE MAGICAL GIRL APP ?????? THIS MEANS THAT I WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TRANSFORM RIGHT” I panicked.

“Yes, it means that. I disabled it for myself last year; it was always made for the club and the club only.” She said it so emotionlessly, but at the same time, I could feel in her eyes that she knew what it meant for me.

“BUT, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SLEEP ? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO STUDY ? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO ANYTHING I USUALLY DO AS A GIRL ????”

This is the worst thing that could have happened to me. I can't function without transforming into a girl, so having that removed from me…

“Can’t you just do it as a guy like you did back in middle school ? It would be refreshing to have you be a guy rather than a girl every time we want to do something” Karin said, pouting.

“But… I got so used to doing everything as a girl, I really just can’t go back to only being a guy…” I struggled to get the words out.

“Minami–kun…” It seems like Karin finally understood how bad it was for me.

“I may have a solution for you.” Teruto–senpai suddenly said.

I immediately asked “TELL ME ABOUT IT !” I was on edge, ready to jump at any opportunity.

“An option would be to transform before I disable the app. You’ll keep the form that you were in at the moment I disable it. Though it means you would be stuck as a girl, you wouldn’t ever be able to change back to a guy.” She seemed really serious. It was no joke.

“That’s…” I didn't know how to even answer that…

Karin had a worried look on her face.

“I’ll disable the app next week, for now I'm only restricting the magical powers and strength enhancements, I guess you can enjoy going back and forth during that time, but after that you’ll have to choose, do you prefer your time as a guy or as a girl.”

The room felt cold. It was chilling.

I couldn’t say anything, it was such a big thing to lose for me. But if I decided to keep it, then I wouldn't have the other part of it. It was either being incapable of functioning or losing the normal life I had.

The rest of the time together went well, though I was pretty quiet. I guess my days of going back and forth as a girl were over. That hurts, it hurts even worse than not doing club activities anymore.

I felt really bad, so I said goodbye to everyone a bit earlier than anticipated, excused myself, paid my part, and went back home.

Minami left earlier than anyone had anticipated. He didn’t even name another student to be the new president of the club.

Saku was the first one to say anything, “Why is he taking it this way ? He managed to live with no issue before joining the club… Oh well, I'm sure he’ll be fine. I’ll be joining him. Thank you for everything today.” She bowed, paid her part, and left, probably to go back with Minami.

Everyone then slowly left one by one, leaving only Yui and Chiyoko alone at the table.

“Why are you imposing on him such a short delay ? There’s plenty of time before the next school year starts.” Yui asked.

“Because if I give her too long of a delay, she’ll be running in circles, and it'll be impossible for her to move forward. It’s best to actually force her to realize what she truly wants.” Chiyoko responded.

“Wait, are you referring to Minami–kun as a girl ?” Yui seemed even more confused.

“I mean, come on, it’s pretty obvious that, with the way she acts, she’s not a guy, nor does she like “being” one. Honestly, it’s painful to see her refuse to see something so simple. It just brings back bad memories of how I was before…” Chiyoko had a concerned look on her face.

“How you were before ? What do you mean by that ?”

Chiyoko monologued, arms crossed, “Yui, just like Minami, I used to think that every man’s dream is to be a girl. I developed the Magical Girl App with the whole intent of making that dream come true. And just like her, I thought it would only be fun if I were able to switch back and forth. Except for the day it wasn’t anymore, and every day in my former body felt like dragging myself through hell. From that point on, I never returned, and instead created a new Magical Girl form, and made my previous one my main body. I’m scared she might come to that realization too late, and regret not living her life to the fullest, dragging herself through some of the worst times of her life.”
