A Magical Girl career? In THIS economy?!
Part-Time Hero: I'm Broke But I Have To Save The World! is a deckbuilder with life-sim elements about an aspiring Magical Girl twenty-something who just moved to the big city to make her childhood dreams of becoming a hero come true.
In the city phase, live out your everyday life as a mild-mannered barista, intern, or burger flipper. Work gigs for cash to pay rent, manage your stress, and recycle cards for energy to play new ones. Work hard to chase your dreams!
When villains threaten the city, transform and challenge the villain in a high-powered 1-on-1 battle, earning hope and fame by defeating enemies quickly and stylishly! Buy cards, upgrade your decks, and become the greatest magical girl of all time.
Will Pink stay stuck in her dead-end job, live her dreams of being rich and famous, or finally learn how to be the true hero this city needs? How her career ends is up to you!
Each week you’ll have to make rent while also saving up to buy new cards as the City Deck throws up new challenges and opportunities–the FINANCIAL DISTRICT might give you a chance to make some extra money, but should you instead play your cards on the PARK to lose some stress?
Stay on your toes, however: mixed within the City Deck are Villain Cards, representing the powerful generals of Nightmare Garden and their countless minions, who block Pink from accessing locations and slowly fill the city with despair. When evil threatens the city, transform into a hero and fight!
As your Magical Girl alter-ego, fight nefarious villains for hope and fame ! Use hope to grow as a Magical Girl and use fame to further your career. Juggle your everyday life and superhero alter-ego to graduate from a part-time hero to full-time!
Play cards representing Pink’s actions with two different decks, representing Magical Pink's everyday life and her superhero alter-ego. Through events, battles, character growth or visits to the shop, you will be able to buy a range of cards to build both decks as you see fit!
As you grow and improve your decks, Pink will have to survive for three seasons against increasingly powerful villains and an increasingly chaotic city, and she’ll grow and be defined by your investment in the four key stats of FAME, HOPE, MONEY, and FRIENDSHIP, and by the City’s level of DESPAIR.
Earned through the various phases of the game, the ending of the game will be decided by Pink's score in these five areas. Focus on MONEY and end up a successful CEO when you retire from being a Magical Girl, focus on FAME over anything to be popular while the city burns, or find HOPE to defeat evil against all odds!
Pink's achievements during her career will unlock new cards with each playthrough! Expand your deck and acquire new cards that will make new endings possible.
MAGICAL PINK: Our aspiring hero dreamed of being a Magical Girl since she was a child. Despite being untalented, depressed, and hopeless, she’s unshakable in her love for Magical Girls and her belief in Hope, and she'll fight for her dreams no matter what!
MAGICAL HERO ICY BLUE: Cool, calm, and composed, Icy Blue is everything Pink looks up to in a Magical Girl. She's one of the top ten most popular heroes on Herogram, but very few people know what she's actually like.
WITCHY GREEN: A Magical Boy who runs the card shop, and fights evil when he feels like it. Laid-back and relaxed, he’d rather leave the rat race to Magical Heroes who don’t yet know what it’s like to be famous.
DESDEMONA CATASTROPHE: Mean green CEO of the city’s biggest VC (Villain Capital) firm, she feeds off the plentiful jealousy and greed of the city. She and her minions poison and debuff heroes with her toxic fumes, but it’s her ability to attack the player’s wallet directly that’s to be most feared by the penniless Pink.
ROMEO LUCIFER: The Wrathful Rose (self-named) is a model and actor whose face is plastered over every billboard in the city. He inflames the city’s terrible passions in a storm of burning blood and roses, though his arrogance and self-absorption is always his undoing.
ALEX PERNICIOSA: Gossip blogger and master manipulator, his hypnotic spores allow him to control the city from the shadows. Constantly infuriated by Romeo's success and stupidity, Desdemona thinks his anger seems a little more like a crush...
Magical Pink is an unemployed twenty-something who's just moved to the big city to pursue her childhood dream: being a Magical Girl that fights evil villains and protects the hopes and dreams of the city's people! Sure, Pink might be naive, depressed, jealous, and insecure—but she loves magical girls and believes in the power of Hope and Love more than anyone else. Through sheer stubbornness and belief, she'll fight as many times as it takes to make her dreams come true.

Q: Are there plans to bring Part-Time Hero to consoles?
With this campaign we’re focused on releasing on Steam in Early Access with PC, Mac, and Linux support. We'd love to bring it to consoles(!), but can't commit to supporting them for Early Access.
Q: Are there plans for a physical release?
Not at this time, but we'd love to do one eventually given the opportunity!
Q: What language(s) will Part-Time Hero support at launch?
Our September Early Access release will be in English only, but we're looking into supporting additional languages for the final release!
We’ve spent a year self-funding development on this title’s core gameplay and features, but we need enough funding to get us from feature complete to enough content for an Early Access launch on Steam. In the current funding environment, we believe that turning to supporters at Kickstarter offers us the best opportunity to keep our team together and finish this project that we believe in so much. Once in EA, we will further refine gameplay and continue to support the team through EA sales in order to hit our eventual 1.0 launch, and we will use any additional funding over our initial goal along with EA sales to continue development of the game. If initial response to the game exceeds our expectations, we’ll be in a fantastic spot to continue supporting the game’s development for years to come. If in the unlikely event that response to the game falls vastly short of our estimations post-Kickstarter, we have a variety of plans to rescope or pursue additional funding, in order to secure a solid 1.0 release. We take both the EA launch and the 1.0 release extremely seriously, and in a competitive market with a high bar for quality, we want to make sure we have the built-up community and good will to make them successful.
