Cell-site simulators (CSS, also known as Stingrays or IMSI catchers) are devices that masquerade as legitimate cell-phone towers, tricking phones within a certain radius into connecting to the device rather than a tower. Our tool, Rayhunter, can help you find them. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
We're grateful to Weathered Security for sponsoring the RF Hackers Sanctuary. Your support helped make our participation at BSides Charm and the RF CTF a reality.
We had a wonderful time this past weekend at BSides Charm. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, participated in the RF CTF, and spent time learning and exploring RF and wireless security with us.
Another year, and another secret ruling from the FISA court showing the FBI is violating Americans' privacy via NSA surveillance. When will Congress finally learn and actually require a warrant for Americans' communications under FISA Section 702?
No matter how often we post these, we still have days like today: - If you're going to instruct a whole classroom to register at once, contact us beforehand. - If you don't like new-account limits, registering more accounts isn't going to go well for you. - WiGLE is a community, we ban jerks.
For the first time in almost 3 years, we have an updated F-Droid build! f-droid.org/en/packages/... The headlines: - adds vector maps via MapLibre (bring your own URL/key) - fixes outdated certificate transparency checks - all the latest features and fixes
as always, feedback and bug reports welcome!
RF Village at DEF CON runs on community. No corporate overlords. No vendor pitches disguised as talks. Just people who actually care about the RF spectrum, breaking it, understanding it. That takes money. Sponsor info here rfhackers.com/sponsors/ And if you can't sponsor, share this!
RF Hackers Sanctuary is looking for sponsors for the 2026 season. Our audience: RF engineers, SDR hobbyists, wireless security researchers, CTF players. People who actually buy the gear. If that's your market, let's talk. rfhackers.com/sponsors/

Just cos it came up elsewhere - if you want to use my art for other stuff, you don’t have to ask - just go futz with it, build on it, tear it down. Have fun. Not speaking for any other artist - just me. Be free little pixels and words and shit.
Looked away from the stats for a minute and the total files parsed count jumped from 7,999,909 to 8,000,156! That’s a LOT of files. I appear to have contributed some 20,000 of them since 2004.
I’ll be launching my new book, The Fix, on May 31 with at the 92nd St Y in New York. Please join us for a live recording of the Stay Tuned podcast and book signing. Details here. www.92ny.org/event/barbar...
Noticed a few interesting stats: - just crossed the 5 Billion unique Bluetooth device count. I know that number is a bit sus, but yowza! - closing fast on 8 million files parsed. That’s but more keeps showing up
Got my new WiFi-Shuriken boards delivered and assembled today. They have 6x Xiao ESP32-C5 boards and a Xiao RP2350. This thing is a scanning beast! Can scan both 2.4 and 5GHz bands in under 2 seconds.

I still loathe that Elon fucked up one of my favourite words; grok. It took me a couple decades to separate it from the fucker who coined it too. It's a grand word. a perfect word. It filled a necessary void - and now it's been stolen. boo.
I’ve had many cases where my OSS was used with zero attribution, and even entire tools/designs were copied; sometimes down to the wording of the algorithm explanations. I’m very pro-reuse, but this kind of thing honestly makes me hesitate to open-source some work. What would you do?
hey FOSS advocates and practitioners: any opinions on MapLibre for Android? asking for a friend.

Every bit of this project was an absolute delight. From researching the patent drawings, reaching out to Takara Tomy to try and find Wantanabe-san, and collaborating with photographer Jim Golden on the deconstructed Armatron shoot...I loved it all. ter.li/JKeegan (gift link)

Wooot! Brought in the strategic reserve of and made it to the Top 50! Now just gotta hold it for 6 more days 😎
Holy cow - just noticed that has passed 50,000,000 geolocated APs on , continuing to dominate the number 2 position on the big board! Not bad for nearly 23 years of contributions!

I am so torn between wanting to share this with no context so that the reader can have the full experience of developing a relationship with each of the parties in the discussion to this PR, and with knowing that the full impact of what is happening here might evade many without more explanation
Seven and a half hour run with three units. Turning OFF the BlueTooth scanning really boosts the WiFi finds! SignalSleuth 5G w/BLE off - 25,000 APs in file JHewitt 5G mod w/BLE on - 20,100 APs WiSpy original - 14,678 APs

Oh heck, I forgot to document directly - since the setting goes in cfg.txt, I should mention: Add “scanble=no” to the file to disable Bluetooth scanning.
The disable Bluetooth option on the that I modded in is working well! modified consistently getting 900+ more WiFi samples. More radio time = more WiFi! See my fork at github.com/pejacoby/war...

not sure who needs to hear this, but using AI-generated slop-tigrations with the WiGLE API is a great way to get your account banned.
