My understanding of the ultimate human endeavor
My understanding of the ultimate human endeavor

Like the sun, oceans, earth seem non living, so “non living” that they don't seem to have emotions, they just continue being, doing what their qualities, characters make them do, atma is also the same. Human Emotions are incidental, but powerful. To conquer them, “to identify with atma” which is one's true nature, is the highest human goal. Bhakti helps keep the qualities of atman like Chaitanya swaroopah, swatantrah, nityah, sarwagatah, ekah etc, be reminded to the seeker as often as possible, slowly making him become that i.e., identify with it. Karma and upaasana yogas help one maintain, focus his mind on these qualities of atman, because only continuous laser like focus on it, can help one identify with it eventually. Then one realises that everything we perceive, sense are all just like the movies we watch, audiobooks we listen to etc, except there's no "person" sitting on couch "doing" all this. There's just continuous, ever present, by stander, camera like watchfulness which is the real me, the Self. It may seem non living, bcz it, by itself, doesn't have any qualities of hearing, seeing, feeling etc, it's all happening in the body, mind, intellect, senses "appliance", but it is what makes this appliance work. Emotions are generated, just like likes, dislikes are habitual patterns that are created since birth, when one sees this "collection of individual components which have their own tendencies, swabhava" as one unit!

First step is to break this habit. Second is to realize that body, mind, intellect etc are inert by themselves, just collection of the 5 elements, it is me, my real self, that powers this "setup".

Living life, "seeing" this truth even in deep sleep is the final step. Once that's reached, identity is reset, I become a jeevanmukta and no more "work" is done by me anymore, even though this body "has to work" bcz of its qualities.

Please let me know if I got this right.

Selling Bibek Debroy's - The Mahabharata books
Selling Bibek Debroy's - The Mahabharata books

I bought the Mahabharata book set written by Bibek Debroy last year and now I want to sell them. I started with the Gita Press Gorakhpur books recently and personally, I found the latter ones to be easier and comfortable.

So I am planning to sell Bibek Debroy books and get the Gita Press books.

Please msg me if anyone's interested.

Buying Laptop - Need advice
Buying Laptop - Need advice

I am working as an SAP Developer. Been using company laptop for every thing for quite long now. Now I want to buy a personal laptop to:

  • Store multimedia content offline

  • use Obsidian for notes

  • simply watching video/movie etc

  • maintaining Kindle books library

  • if in any rare case, office laptop stops working, would like to install SAP GUI or some IDE on it to resume with temporarily.

So basically I'm looking for a laptop that has a good battery life, good memory storage, doesn't have to be the best at performance (not much of a gamer, if basic games work that's enough), good service at Hyderabad, future proof (it doesn't get 'outdated' too soon), with a budget not more than 40-50k.

Please suggest.

Health insurance for parents in Hyderabad
Health insurance for parents in Hyderabad

I live in Hyderabad, my wife and I working in IT sector. Both our companies provide insurance for our immediately family i.e., the spouse and our twin boys.

For adding parents, we have to pay extra premium by ourselves. We are looking for a good option outside, considering:

  • my father-in-law underwent cancer surgery two years back. He had gone for chemotherapy 4 times, last one being approx. around Feb 2023.

  • my mother-law has knee pain and ankle pain, she takes medication for them.

Most of the insurance providers are quoting minimum 40k for just my parents-in-law. Also they say there's waiting period for important procedures like cancer treatment, cataract, kidney stones etc of around 30 months!

If anyone has any idea, please suggest any options you know are good in Hyderabad or if I'm missing any information.

That's exactly the reason for hesitation to go to hospitals. They exaggerate every little thing or take unnecessary measures, giving the reason that they don't want to take any chances/risk, even though such measures are not REALLY necessary.

Well, it's been more than a day now and the swelling has slightly reduced and the cut is also not so worrying.

I think his skin is like mine. When we cut ourselves and it clots, there's this brown mass that makes the cut look swollen. Over time, the mass falls off and the wound heals. Not sure what that mass is called! Tried to google but couldn't find correct image anywhere.

I'm facing the same apprehension with using obsidian at work. I'm a software developer, working at a BIG TECH company as well and I'm using it for taking down notes on every idea that comes to me and also, want to use it in the future because we forget stuff we worked on and the next interview comes, I've so little idea, what work I did and what lessons I learnt along the way. When faced with a tricky situation a year or so later that i already solved earlier, without some way to document the solution, i would definitely feel that situation like it's happening for the first time!

If you're using Logseq, how're you backing up all the notes? And also, images are not as smooth there i think, are they? Also, are you sure it meets the OSS (Open source software) restrictions in the firm you're working at?

Obsidian alternatives that are open source (free) and sync feature as well
Obsidian alternatives that are open source (free) and sync feature as well

I'm currently using obsidian daily for note taking as well as a daily journal, on my work machine. Problem is, checking the notes whenever relevant info is needed. I am currently syncing the vault to my GitHub account everyday EOD, but when situation arises, I've to download the entire vault folder to the device, just to check some small thing i noted down in the tool.

Paying for the software is not an option because in India, the price is too high. Also, recently the company I'm working at, has started cracking down on unapproved open source apps installed on its machines.

So, I'm looking for a note taking app that is secure, has markdown features like obsidian, is open source and free, having sync capability (Android) and also future proof, in case the tool is suddenly deprecated or the free options are all revoked and demands subscriptions.

I know this is asking for a lot, but thought it doesn't hurt to check for options with this great community.
