In less than a month after pushing for stricter censorship restrictions, Fantia is now walking back on their decision.

On May 20th, Fantia previously announced that they require creators to fully censor all their works, including all past works posted on the site, and gave them a mere 5 days to do so. But today, they are repealing their previous mandate.

This is in light of the strong backlash as creators and artists took to social media to announce their outrage and departure from Fantia. Some creators mentioned that they have literally thousands of past works and retroactively revising all of them would be an impossible task.

The announcement from Fantia states: “Currently we are engaged in renewed discussions regarding the future direction and standards with the legal authority that raised objections.”

This proves that once again, this ‘legal authority’ were just made up rules by private companies and the appeal did not come directly from a federal government body.

They go on to say, “Until new standards are formally established, all submissions will be evaluated under the previous policy.”

They offered their apologies and requests that creators hold off on revising their past works until the next announcement is issued.

The damage had already been done, however. Creators have closed their accounts or deleted their past works, trust had been breached, and Fantia is losing revenue at an accelerating rate.

Their new site-translation feature may have opened the doors to international customers, but with no one creating content on the site, what are people going to buy?
